B-17 dives after takeoff

Post by mbarney »

Hello,
New to flight sim. Just started playing on steam edition and decided to try the a2a B-17. It has been nothing but frustration since I bought it. I can take off and climb about 1000 feet and then it just dives and crashes. I have paused it and checked to see what gauges are changing and I don't really see anything going on. Starting to think I wasted my $$$. Can anyone help?

Are you possibly stalling? What airspeed are you climbing out at? Are you keeping the pitch steady during the climb?

Another thing to consider is whether it is fully updated?

Have you run the updater after B17 core and Accusim (in that order)?

Also, have you got another controller mapped to elevator at all? I.e duplicate control?

Hope we can sort this out for you... I can promise you, you haven't wasted your money :-)

The prototype B-17 did the same thing because the elevator controls were locked.

Before you dig in to complex add-ons like the B-17, confirm that the default FSX aircraft work fine first.

It was stalling. It was very difficult to tell. Airspeed didn't appear to drop. But I found and followed the checklist on the knee board and found with a much more gradual ascent I could get airborne and finally flew a short flight and even landed the thing. Now just to learn the Nav for it.

Thank you for your replies.

Cheers,

Mike

Good to hear that you have it sorted! A2A aircraft are so rewarding when you fully learn them... works of art I would say!!

All the best,

I don't think I have accusim. I am brand new to fsx since christmas. I have been flying the cessna and the crj700 mostly to learn the controls and navigation. My son and I are having a great time and just though it would be cool to try the B-17. We are really enjoying it and I have started reading about some of the mods. Not sure where to start though. Plan to read through some topics on here and see what the hot tickets are.

Regards,

Mike

Well when you are comfortable with the basic B-17 here's what the B-17G Accu-sim package adds to take the realism up a few notches to our award winning Accu-sim technology.

There are a bunch of videos on youtube with the a2a b17. Give them a watch and it will help with the learning curve.
