Thanks Lewis :) , working on this I was not going to go to colour, then the thought, lets try the simple pencil and colour pencil on this card, build two different styles, this way it can show how easy or tried and tested , one other option also would be scanning it onto PC once complete and turn it into near photo.

Hand drawn from the brain case, all off my work is done like this , this file size format is bigger than the standard A3 so it is a little job scanning it, just an idea I thought last night to create two possible versions off this card, other drawings and paintings had the same treatment but this would first with the use off water colour pencil only.

Once complete it is a digital painting, others are simply scanned and laser printed , Examples: 'Battle of Midway' and 'The Hustler' and others.

This is were it can become exciting and also really takes its own same time to do, to smooth it out and in many cases in the end result many think its a photo, I have kept all my original drawing and paintings , one classic was the "Bad day Training 1943" , I did this almost 40 years ago in only BIC black ball point pen, the Harvard really needed a work over plus the other aircraft, a Lanc in there as you know , this is where the PC has really kicked into its own. 8)

Its a bit off both, Water colour pencil and standard colour pencil, once I'm happy with the result I will add a little flicker of acrylic water paint to define specific areas - gun flash's and tracer, before that I will ink in railings and shadow and other minute details .

With this one I'm more experimenting with the different material and using every type of medium to see what the result will be, currently it is a little messy but that is expected.

Now adding the warring affects , flak and movement and a tidy up now finding the card due it being a gloss surface is making it more time consuming , its superb to use within the B/w area but colour pencil and water-paint gets a little tricky, appear's to create a wax making it longer or time taken in getting a result.

One little trick, I do is use a BBQ 'bamboo skewer' as a paint brush , dip paint, dip paint draw - even sand it for a finer tip 8)

its coming together, the water in particular looks stunning, actually looks like my own water when I use to paint oils! Interesting you have the oil effect with your medium but i think its the waxyness perhaps giving that effect perhaps?

cheers,

Strangely I never went to oils but the water paint 'acrylics' are easier to use, regard to the waxyness, it is difficult sometimes but this is more an experiment and also a lesson in showing the determination , soon as I added colour to the card , in the the back off my mind I went WHOOPS ! but now as you said .. "its coming together"

You should try oils some time, you can get real heavy with it and almost sculpt the image, colours, and lighting. Great fun.

thanks,
