Another great one! I don't have a P-51 manual, but I did a little digging, and found the technical order, a little too late! but very interesting nonetheless!

Wait, wait. what? I got the answer right? But...I guessed! I guess watching QI can work.

Doh...

I was trying to pull a fast one earlier, and I was scanning the POH for the answer. Couldn't find it though in my urgency. But it's right here, on page 8.

In addition to being adjustable for trim, the rudder tab is linked so as to apply reverse boost to the rudder, improving the flight characteristics of the airplane.

Congrats to the guys that won! I was scouring the net myself for the handbook, but do not have access. While I have access to a real P-51 and its mechanics at my second job I couldn't reach any of them on the phone in time. When I go on Monday I am going to see this for myself, but I can swear whenever I grab that rudder I do not recall seeing that tab move. Although I am sure Scott is 100% right, and I just probably have not paid attention to the tab that closely.

I can't reply to your PM, because you have the feature disabled on your board preferences...

PZl Belfegor,

I have to ask, how did you know the answer? This is not something that is commonly known, even among active P-51 pilots.

Scott.

I had thought I remembered P-51 brought as an example of something not very common when I was reading about various control surfaces. I skimmed through some of manuals, but missed it (now I found that I even have that technical order shown in video), so I reverted to a bit less trustworthy googling. After several sources pointed that the trim tab was also anti balance tab, the search was over :)
