I had this thought today about an add-on Accu-sim package for the upcoming Mustang. I figure A2A isn't busy enough these days so why not bring this up?
So, the deal is, the Mustang is going to be the first WoP3 aircraft to come out that is a regular contender at the Reno Air Races. And wouldn't it be cool if, after we're all finally used to a stock Mustang and have learned how not to crash it and fry the Merlin, A2A came out with a racing add-on package that changed the pilot, deleted a few features on the model, and added a high-performance package to the Merlin?
Modifications for racing are not practical for normal flight and long endurance. These are two different realms for aircraft, just as with street cars and racing cars. Accu-sim is something that could really bring out all the differences between "stock" and "racing".
This is food for thought. I think it would be a popular stand-alone package for an aircraft that is unique among its peers, given its long history at Reno.

The downside is that Scott's team would have to hang out with the Reno crowd and their hotrods. But, hey, someone's got to do it.

John

I really am looking forward to the P-51 Mustang accusim coming out, it's truly one of my favorite warbirds, and it sounds like it's right around the corner too

I think that would be awesome to have a addon like that. Finally give me a interest to do some aerobatics as well. Funny, when I fly A2A aircraft, I typically fly it like I actually own the aircraft in real life, and baby the engine, etc.. and usually fly right side up, hehe, but with this addon package your talking about, would make it fun to practice certain aerobatic maneuvers and fly them appropriately.

Of course, what really attracted me to this post was like you said mountainhighair, P-51 is a regular contender at the reno air races. In FSX I always usually fly out of 4SD (Stead Airport) since in RL that's the airport I flew out of during my training days. Plus my favoirte place to fly in FSX. So picturing a P-51 Mustang Accusimed, with a high -performance package add on, going 350MPH+ flyby down the active at stead airport in FSX, doing some awesome aerobatic stunts, sounds really sweet :D I agree mountainhighair, accusim would bring out all the differences with "stock and racing" modifications.

Funny, living in the Reno aera for quite some time, I have never been to a Reno Air Show...

Lots of variables in air frame and engine differences between each racing model out there. They could make a generic racing version.

I think the RR griffon engine from "Precious Metal" would be more fun to work on since they could drop it into a couple variants of the Spitfire (most notably the XIX since it had Contra Rotating Props if they did a "Precious Metal" P-51 racer). That engine is a total wet dream up there next to the "Corncob". http://youtu.be/czwkYeoMYFk

cool video, love the sound of that engine. Gotta love the way that spitfire lifted off the ground, with great lift. Even his landing was really nice in the end, didn't even hardly stay in ground effect, he just puts her down smoothly. Interesting propeller as well.

Awesome video. I too would love to have a more modified 51, but if it turned into a big project then it would never happen. If A2A modified the Merlin then deleted features like wing pylons, gun muzzle fairings, vintage radios, fuselage fuel tank, etc, and modified the instrument panel then it wouldn't be too obtrusive to their project schedule. Perhaps something that could be handled on the side.

In auto racing sims you can go into the garage and modify the engine and chassis with upgrades. It would be fun to have a similar hangar for the Mustang to click on different modifications and play around with it. That way folks racing against each other wouldn't necessarily have identical birds. A2A's hangar is what makes this idea even remotely possible. It could follow the theme found in auto racing sims. Perhaps years down the road... First things first.

Yeah some good points, in fact A2A has already done this, (on a minor level) with the spitfire, and allowing the user to switch propellers, and in simulation actually witnessing the changes of the aircraft aerodynamically. I feel mountainhighair that your idea, is not far fetched and probably even crossed the Dev's at A2A. Sure it would take some time to develop and code all of the variables when changing out parts to an aircraft (modifications); and realistically study each modification, and the impact it has on the aircraft.

Of course it takes time, that's what makes A2A stand out from the rest, they put the time and effort into their products. Also their client base does have an impact on the direction of their development, another feather in their cap.

So, being able to swap parts out of the hanger and get a realistic feel it has on the airframe, would just be incredible. In time I guess...

We are on the same page, Bat. I would guess that A2A's hangar was influenced by such things as the garages found in auto-racing sims. I'm no computer game guru, but I'm guessing that theme is common. Of course, it's not common with flight sims and A2A sticks out above the crowd again. Go figure...
