Release Date??
I have all the WOP birds also. The P-51 is my favorite! I also love the B-17 and 190. I'm sure the JUG will be my fav. when I get it. Count me in on any formation flying! I'd really enjoy doing something like that. Get a flight leader on TS so he could talk to his section. Set up certain mission goals. Make a daily target...Berlin...have the P-51 or 47 escort meet the 17's at a pre-determined rally point. The new jugs will be cool because you'll be able to drop the drop tanks now. Fly into the target. Return home. Have a beer at the pub. Good to Go! Semper Fi, MudMarine

Some B-17's in formation, escorted by P-47's. Off in the distance 5 or 6 FW-190's. We'll need times and possible servers. A list of pilots and when people are free. All this depends on when the "JUG" will be released. The pictures should be taken over Berlin, or some such German city. Just think about the pictures and video that will come out of it. Maybe even a mini-movie. FUN, FUN, FUN!! Semper Fi, MudMarine
Along with fixed, flexible and turret gunnery ; FX and damage capability on the ground,... and a workable synchronous bombsight?
This great idea first sprang from the fighter unit organized by Wayward Iain, Ken and myself when B17 II was being developed. The fighter wing pages are still in existence on Ken's web site , last time I looked.
The project was shelved when B17 II multiplayer was scrubbed., but can certainly be revived.
SNUFFY:
How about building us Steeple Morden as a base for our Jugs?
That way, we can reenact the historical testing of the P47's as the Steeple Morden Strafers. (Who developed the tactics used to isolate the battlefield prior to, during, and after D-Day!)
They were chosen because they used to strafe German airfields and other targets while enroute home after escorting the B-17s.
I've been involved in this scenario for a long time...Ken was our Wing Commander, Iain was our Adjutant and I was Wing Ops, Plans and Training officer.
The scenario includes fighter tactical doctrine, Standard Operating Procedures and an Operational Training Unit to teach the subjects to the fighter pilots.... This in addition to the escort flying , as was mentioned above by mudmarine and redrooster.
It is a viable plan... at one time we had three squadrons in the process of organization and a Wing Staff. Unfortunatly they disbanded when multiplayer for B17 died, but they are still out there.
I "Know where the bones are buried", Scott.
WOW great idea i read a book about steeple morden the book called An Ace Of The Eighth ,that would be so cool!!!!

That's a Roger, mudmarine! Part of the Standing Operations and Tactical Doctrine taught in the Operrations Training unit was to be how to rendezvous, figure take-off times to meet the bombers , and how to form up after proceding to the meeting point individually or after strafing runs.
Also escort tactics both before and after the policy changed for fighter escorts due to gaining air superiority.

AC, from the pics Sean D. has posted at netwings, you can drop drop tanks AND bombs(P-47 only)
Wow, lot of people like the idea of using WOP for multiplayer for bomber/escort/intercept missions
Maybe depending on how it goes we could have B-17, B-24, and Lancaster vBomber squadrons as welll as vfighter squadrons for the P-51 and P-47. It seems like we also have enough interested people for some Butcher Bird squadrons.
This could be great
redrooster.

Good, glad to see people interested. What we need to do is start another thread and have squadron sign up or some such thing. This will give us an idea on how many people are interested. What types of planes we'll have. I'm sure we'll have 51's, 47's, 17's and 190's. We should use only WOP birds and FS9. The idea is formation flying, mission goals, escorting bombers. I know there won't be any shooting/damage. So we'll have to figure out away to allow for the 190's to try and break up the formation. The escort will try and keep the 190's away from the b-17's. It's too bad the 17's can't drop a bombload, that would be cool. Has anyone ever asked shockwave if that is possible? Just some ideas. Semper Fi, MudMarine

Someone needs to develop a combat add-on for MSFS9. I'd live to come across some slow flying C-172 and tear off a wing, watch it tumble into the Puget Sound. Or a jumbo jet trying to land at LAX, flaps and gear down. Dropping down out of the sun and opening up with those eight .50's, see the jet engine explode into flame as you pull up past it into a slow roll, watch it smash into the runway. Or intercepting Ju-88's over Las Vegas, seeing that big arch of black smoke as they fall from 25,000 feet to smash into the desert around McCarran Airport. An Me 109 dropping into the intersection between the MGM and Excalibur, taking out those pedestrian bridges, there.
Lol And well, aside from my obvious destructive streak, FS9 has the potential to create the most realistic combat sim experience...(yeah, i own them all: CFS 1,2,3, Il2 Sturmovik/Forgotten Battles/Pacific Fighters, BOB, even Lock On, Falcon 4.0,)...particularly with Shockwave's beautiful aircraft.

Major, I can not ... Steeple Morden has already been done and by a mudmover much better than myself.
All credit goes to Cees Donker for this baby.
In fact if you go to Sim-Outhouse and register, you'll find the South of England quite full of WW2 perioid airfields for downloading and installing in your FS9.
I've kinda gotten outta the habit of mudmoving while I was buying a house. Haven't gotten back into it just yet.

Oh, no shooting But anyway very intriguing idea to see if the Fw190's would scream through the escorts and make one pass on the bombers before vanishing in the clouds. Must re-consider buying FS9 then, I left it on the shelf because it was no-shooting-civvie-planes-only
