New Install?

Post by jrcct »

Disclaimer: Technically Challenged.

Going to download sim from A2A. Mac user...have bootcamped partition with Win7.

Have seen references to v2.13. Is the patch from gamershell updated to v2.12 or 13? Is there something else I need for v2.13?
Is the new multiskin download updated also?
Have read Buddye's install instruction and "must read" threads. Since I am installing a fresh A2A version do I need to delete or save any files before
installing the patches?

I appreciate any help.

BTW...is Buddye still involved?

We are currently at the point of constructing the installer for
2.13, it has not yet been released. I was hoping it would be
out around a month ago, but the people who used to look
after the patch installer are no longer available, and I've been
learning a lot of stuff lately about how to do it, and mostly
waiting on the necessary information. The good news is that
going forward we should be completely in charge of building the
installer for future releases, and that should reduce the time
considerably for 2.14. As for when 2.13 comes out, the delays
I've run into lately make me reluctant to say. It is just waiting
on getting a working installer, though, and that is a function of
the time which people have available to attend to it, in volunteer
capacity.

For now, you can get most of the functionality of the 2.13
install by installing the 2.12 update, and adding the bits from the
thread in the general forum called "v2.13 beta offered as Mods"
(there will be a few small things missing, I think, that we've
added since those were put up, as we expected them to be available
in the official patch by now). The beta adding process is not
as totally seamless as running the patch installer, but if you have
any facility at all with loading files into folders, you should manage OK.

Regarding running BoB2 on a mac with bootcamp, that is completely
foreign territory for me, but checking the archive here, we seem to
have multiple reports over the years of people doing this successfully,
including with W7 and v2.12. So it looks like it should work OK.
However, do read carefully through the release notes for 2.12,
particularly there are a series of important points necessary to
getting the sim to work happily under W7. I hope your machine
is 64 bit, with over 2GB RAM, as the recent patches are quite
resource intensive, and W7 takes up a bit of space itself, as well.

There isn't much involved with the patch process, you should be
able to just do an install, then a patch. You can run your install
before patching to ensure it works, and set up your hardware
at that point, if you like; when you exit the program, a bdg.txt
file and settings.cfg file will be created, and when the patch
installer runs, it will give you the option of retaining those settings,
or writing over with defaults.

Excellent. Sounds good to go. Just don't let µ$
upgrade your Win7 to Win10 on you, BoB2 doesn't
quite work right under Win10.

Oh, yes. It's in the release notes. DirectX 9.0c,
the post-2010 version. It needs to contain files
d3dx9_**.dll where ** goes from 24 up to 43. Those
files get written in to the windows\system32\ folder.

For some obscure reason, microsoft stopped changing the
version number at DX9.0c in about 2005, but continued to
update the files, and update the programming suite for C++
that used the DX, with new files up to around 2010, so
our BDG patch coders were using newer versions of DirectX
than came in the original release. You should have seen an
offer to fetch the newer version when you ran the patch
installer. I don't know about the netapi32.dll, perhaps it is
also part of DX9. You should be able to find that at microsoft.

Nothing to contribute diagnostically, alas.

Updated to 2.12 and got "Corruption in BoB directory" but nothing more specific.
Re-installed 2.06. Ran 2.12 again and HeyPresto all good.

So "ReDo from Start" should be the first response to this failure.
