CTD in RAF campaign just when I press "frag" button

Post by PieceOfCake »

First time it works, but ALWAYS the second time after I have flown a mission / my plane gets shot down and I want to re-enter the game again it CTD.
I have to exit the game, restart it to be able to play again.
Pisses me off

Unfortunately, we don''t have a coder around these days to
look at crashes and figure them out, but I can do a pretty good
imitation, if you post the relevant crashlog. You know the
drill, right? The crashlog.txt file, start from the bottom, and
go up til you find the nearest (last) instance of the line that
starts

------------ Begin of section written with bob.exe, Build/Rebuild all date:

and then check that about 30 lines below that there's a line starting

Error occurred at

which then shows a date which should match when the crash occurred.
Collect all the text between those two lines, plus another ten or so lines
further down, and paste it into a post here. And give an approximate
summary of your hardware and OS.

Then I will look at it, and noting that Buddye was pretty much convinced
that we had stomped out all the bugs inherent to the code, so I will look
for the indicators that it is a crash due to something impinging on the
program from the windows environment. Things like "ACCESS_VIOLATION
in module <UNKNOWN>" or "in module ntdll.dll" or module kernel.dll, all of
which indicate that windows is misbehaving, usually because some other
piece of hardware or software is not doing its job properly.

And that's all I can do, except to try to guess or speculate about what
exactly it might be - antivirus, hiccupping joystick, video driver, etc.
For instance, if you happen to have a 32-bit version of Vista or Win7,
there is a 2GB memory limit issue that has to be addressed when running
2.11 or 2.12, which tend to be RAM gluttons.

Hi, I wrote something wrong in my first post: It happends when I click the "fly" button and when the game is about to switch from 2d to 3d.
And I can not fly two missions in a row. I have to exit the game, and enter it again to fly again. This happends both in quick missions and in the campaign.

I get no CTD while I am flying so I don't think it's something to do with my joystick. I also have windows 7 pro 64 with 6 gb of Ram. i7 3,4 ghz and Radeon 6950 with 2 gb ram.
The game runs smooth as silk.

About the installation: I installed first the 2.06, then the 2.12. then added the late 2.12 fix files, then I added the 2.13 campaign exe file (bob.exe) and then the english file.

Here is the crashlog:

"------------ Begin of section written with bob.exe, Build/Rebuild all date: Oct 30 2014 09:45:37 ---------------------------

Aha. This was easy: BoB.exe is passing a request to windows.
which bounces through windows ntdll.dll and kernelbase.dll,
and lands in AppProfiles.dll, which fails, and causes the crash.
AppProfiles.dll is a part of the RadionPro video driver configuration
software, and a quick websearch on that filename yields all
sorts of discussions about a version which seems to be
suggested to have a bug - v1.0.5.5 . I suggest a search in that
direction, perhaps there is an update, or a rollback is called for.

(I have an ATI/AMD card, but I've never bothered to update
the drivers since I got it in 2010, as it works perfectly fine,
and mine does not seem to have an AppProfiles.dll file. )

I hate this piece of ?()^ sim to be honest. Most friggin unstable sim ever created.

Should be renamed "BoB 2: CTD"

But I still love it at the same time :)

It's a time machine. Not sure why this sim of all sims really makes you feel you play in ww2.

But not gonna roll back another driver just because 1 out of 5 sims I play can't handle it.

I think you would have to build one computer just around this sim to make it work decent; the excact directx driver, the excact video card, with the excact driver, the excact OS, the excact....aaarrggggg!!!!

hope someone will make worthwile Battle of britain game in the future

I use the AMD Catalyst 10.12 drivers which are old drivers but work well. PV uses them too.

Happend again; CTD when trying to fly two times in a row.
Prior to this I uninstalled previous my amd driver, then installed the one you recommended.
Why is this game so very fubar?

Do you still have the file AppProfiles.dll on your computer?
If so, and it shows in the latest crashlog, then your rolling back
the driver didn't get rid of it. I have heard this is a problem
with AMD configuration software. In fact, stories of problems
with the newer software was the reason I was reluctant to
upgrade my drivers, and so far I haven't regretted it.

If the crashlog doesn't refer to AppProfiles.dll, then it must
be something else causing the crash this time.

Edit: I have a vague memory of people mentioning
problems with AMD cards which went away after
altering some settings in the card config software.
It is probably mentioned in some posts here. Can't
remember the details (no surprise there).
