Error 577

Post by shanebritz »

Hi,
I have installed bobII, try and run it and straight away get start force error 577.
What gives?

I run a good rig. I7 processor, GTX 580 card, 4Gb ram. Is Window 7 64 bit an issue perhaps?
Please can someone advise a fix for me?

I have no idea what a "start force error 577" is; but there should be
no problems running BoB2 on a W7 64 machine, as I do. Do not set
any sort of compatibility mode, run natively in W7 64.

What patch level are you running? Is this the stock A2A download, or
a CD from a reseller, or have you installed the current BDG patch?
The patch release notes in the patch announcement post on the BoB2
general forum here give a series of points which should be reviewed,
and they apply even for older patch levels when run on post-XP OS.

...I did a google search for "start force error 577" and got results
for Star Force error 577; this is a DRM system (copy protection scheme),
and has never been used with BoB2. So having this come up puzzles
me to say the least.

The very first release, hard copy CD through GMX in 2005, had a simple
copy protection which required the CD in the drive to start, but this
was removed in an early patch, so the A2A download and all subsequent
box releases do not have it, or any other DRM.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
I installed the game off of a CD that I bought on the weekend.
Inside the cover is a security code, but I was never even prompted to input it.

I am busy downloading patch v2.12
Should I download and install pretty much every patch I can find?

Sorry for the lamo questions.

All BoB2 patches are comprehensive, you only need to
load one. (If you ever want to roll back, it is best to
do a complete uninstall, then load the base CD or D/L,
then the patch for your target level.)

Please read the release notes regarding the
tweaks required for running with W7 64, and also for
widescreen monitors, ignore the "recommended" line
in the GFX setup screen, set Use Desktop Res to OFF,
and set resolution with the menus which then appear.

I'm still not clear on why you got a StarForce error. Are
you sure you have a BoB2 WoV? What publisher was it?
Sounds sketchy to me.

EDIT: I did a search on the forum, it seems that the copy
protection scheme on the original GMX version was known to
occasionally complain about CD/DVD copy software that it
found on a machine, when trying to launch (not install, for
some odd reason), but it wasn't any sort of StarForce system,
nor did it give a message like you've quoted. More like "please
remove virtual drive and retry". Anyway, all those problems
disappear with the first post-GMX patch, which I think was
around 2.04.
