Thinking about purchasing but just one question

Post by domfliss »

Hi guys,

I'm really tempted to purchase BOB2, but I'm unsure of the installation procedure and copy protection.

I would like to install this on my laptop (mac with Bootcamp, Windows 7) but it won't be connected to the internet all the time, so is the copy protection serial number or is it done by online activation? I'm kind of old fashioned when it comes to computer media, but serial protection works fine with me.

Also; after purchasing the product and then downloading it from my main computer, is it just a simple case of unzipping the file and installing it just like you would by DVD?

Sorry to ask, but I just wanted to make sure.

Cheers

Dom

PS. I also sent an email, but I thought this might be quicker, LOL.

:) Hi domfliss regarding Bob2 ,you don't need to be online all the time only to d/load it if you buy it online or to update the patches, after that it's all offline. :)

But of course come online to visit here for questions ,advice and to say hello :)

PS. I used to enjoy European Air War and before that, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe. God, that must have been 20+ years ago, LOL.

Umm, before dashing off, although it's only $20 investment, it
might be a good idea to determine if your machine can cope with
BoB2. Combat flight sims are an absolute bear for resources, and
although BoB2 is now getting on 8 years old, we have been upgrading
it steadily with patches. Please note the recommendations for
machine specs attached to the 2.12 patch update release notes.

You will need a pretty muscular vid card, and a multicore cpu to
run v2.12 anywhere near flat out, though it is possible to back
off the options severely for weaker machines. As I know exactly
zip about the specs of macs, I can't tell you how you will fare.

Thanks for that. I actually tried it on my iMac first and it runs a treat. I've got Bootcamp and Windows 7 64bit installed.

I get about 70+ FPS in good weather at 1920 X 1080, so the performance is really good. I haven't had this much fun since SWOTL by LucasArts!!

Cheers

Ah, great to hear. Do these Macs come in different grades, so
for the benefit of other potential users it could be said "it runs
ok on a [whatever sort] Mac"?

Hi there,

Yes they do come with different specs, but even the lowest spec comes with a fair amount of oomph. The iMac I use is from mid 2011 and is an i5 with a 6750 512mb card; so not the quickest machine by any length, but she'll run FSX maxed out with Orbx, so that will do me, LOL.

Here is a link to the current models:

To be honest; I think any mac with a quad core chip, coupled its own dedicated graphics card, should run BOB2 very well.

If I can get that performance on my one and half year old system, the new ones should fly, LOL.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply. I hope you enjoy the sim, we've
enjoyed polishing it over the last decade.
