just loaded the Beta of it today. Not impressed whatsoever. Seems worse then before even. I don't even have a hope of it running BOB from what I see.

Had a little more success then I expected with the new windows 8.11 beta program :)

Got BOB to run and a did bit of quick mission flying but sadly this computer isn't designed for gaming

It crashes to desktop when little demands are made of it in fighting opponents :(

someone with a much better gaming computer and windows 8 version should check the beta 8 out I believe.

make sure to run it in compatibility mode and save it to your computer

and just use a very light resources antivirus program

I dumped zone alarm and am letting Microsoft windows defender do my antivirus for me now.

I remember from the foggy past that to get BoBII to play I had to un-tick the boxes in the mouse settings. 3rd tab "Pointer Options" I un-ticked all the boxes and run my copy in WinXP SP3 mode and I haven't had a CTD yet. Hope this helps some of u guys.

Rather than waiting for MS to fix the problem there must be a workaround.

A clever chap on CoD forums created a shell 'launcher' for Cliffs of Dover which you could run and it would fix the glitch preventing CoD from running and then call the game exe so that it would run fine.

http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=36078

I have no idea how it worked, but if he could find the workaround for CoD, another genius must be able to do it for BOB2?

Any coders out there?

The problem seems to lie in the DX9 graphics handling
(d3dx9.dll error), and we do not have anyone in the bdg
currently with expertise in this area to solve the problem,
or even to have a good grasp of what exactly the problem
is.

Hello, PV!

Thanks for all of your tenacious attention to the Windows 8 compatibility problems, I only wish the reports and experiences were more favorable.

I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I rather cavalierly purchased a new Dell XPS8700 PC with Windows 8... what a mistake.

From reading this thread, it sounds like running BOBII in Win7 compatibility mode will NOT allow the game to run. How disappointing.

From the little time I spent running the game at significantly reduced settings in Windows XP, it was without hesitation my all-time favorite flight sim.

Late to the party; some party.

Purchase BoB II some while ago and trying to run on Windows 8. Any solutions to the problems? I'm guessing no since I've seen none.

Bummer, though, since it's seems like it would be a great simulator. That's why I'm haven't deep sixed it yet.

Thanks for your time.

There is some suggestion that Win10 (*) has some better
result - it can run the 3D OK, but so far fails to exit successfully -
the alt-X combo is reportedly not recognized. This is the
result of one report made at SimHQ, so it doesn't really
constitute solid data yet, but if it is true, and I've heard
W10 is being offered as a free upgrade to owners of W8
(and W7, but W7 isn't broken, so why bother?), it would
seem the best solution; it may even be that some fooling
about with keystroke aliasing, or worst case, if we get really
lucky and achieve a code solution, may solve the alt-X problem.
I'm waiting on more reports.

*(what happened to Win9?

Someone made a comment on SimHQ that suggested there was
some sort of unpleasant pun or something that could be squeezed
from the name, and that was why it wasn't used. It was further
suggested that it was supposed to be obvious on reflection, but
no amount of reflection yielded an answer for me, so I surmised
that if this really true, it refers to some cultural meme I've never
encountered. Ah, well...)

I can confirm that BoB does work in Windows 10 but there is trouble with the Alt-X command. There's hope!

We've had another recent report from SimHQ that
boB2 runs in Win10, but this report suggested
crashing may happen after some minutes in
campaign 3D. I haven't got the details on the
crashlog yet. Any furthe illumination would be
appreciated.

Apparently Win10 has added a bunch of new
default keyboard shortcuts, including some
using the Alt key. I have not seen mention
of Alt-X, but it may have been included. So,
what if anything happens if you Alt-X from
outside the program - it may bring up some
new win10 function, which would explain where
the problem was coming from - though that may
not be enough to lead to a solution.
