Keyboard not working at all in game , ver 2.11

Post by Krazyeye »

Hi there
Im a bit new to the whole look for help on a forum so please bear with me if I dont give out all the infomation that is needed to generate a positive answer / solution.
I am trying to play BOB2 as I think its an amazing game and have heard it has an amazing community constantly playing and working to make it better than it already is my problem however is as basic as can be " My Keyboard does not work in the game", It will work however to let me type my name at the beginning when im naming my commander but after that its no play , I can get the rest of the game to work but this is stopping me from playing as although i have a decent joystick i still need my keyboard for specific functions.

What Ive done so far :
complete fresh instal / reinstall on a number of occassions each time using cccleaner to clen desktop and also deleting bob2 folders left over my self.
Upgrading to 2.11 , applying win 7 fix <------ and it is here that i run out of ideas .................

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks and apologies if i have posted too much infomation underneath

Matt

I am currently running

Hi Krazyeye, welcome to BOBII and the BOBII forums and community.

Your PC and OS should be fine and the fresh install is also good.

Your keyboard not working is mostly a hardware issue unless you have changed some key assignments and messed them up. If you have screw around with the key assignments then put all assignments back to default and give the game a try hitting key commands.

I base this "guess" on the fact that we have 1000's of players running BOBII and of course their keyboards work. Do you have a spair keyboard to try? Is your key board a wireless as that could be the issue.

BTW, the new version of BOBII is version 2.12.

Attempted using any other ports upon your computer?

Also with respect going upon your post are you not within an English speaking country? As I wonder whether you have an foreign keyboard and whether that could have anything to do with it? Just a thought, one key being shown as something upon your keyboard might translate to something different in game?

In the RAF they say an landing's ok, when the pilot gets out and can still walk away.
But in the FAA the prospect is grim, when the landings piss-poor and the pilot can't swim.

hi there thanks for the quick replys , firstly i guess i should reread my posts before submitting as having reread it it does sound as though I may be foregin , I am in fact English but with bad spelling :) lol.

BUDDYE : every time i try to remap a button using keyboard i just get an audible ring sound and in game a simple command with "G" to raise gears does'nt work along with the rest of the keyboard. I dont have spare keyboard to use but as you can see its working here and does so in every other game I have.

I have just contacted the peeps(a2a) i downloaded the original exe from to see if i can redownload it in case that has some how become corrupted but other than that im out of ideas. (2.06exe)

Cheers all

Would not worry about, as that happens to me also, although would mention you need to press Save as nothings saved when just using the tick. Does keys.txt exist within Battle of Britain II\KEYBOARD and within that do you see items such as the following;

Code: Select all

ACCELKEY 15
ACCELKEY2 42+15
AILERON_LEFT 203
AILERON_RIGHT 205
AILTRIMDOWN 29+210
AILTRIMUP 29+201
AIUNFRIENDLYVIEW 56+59
Also have you attempted to start the game without your AV (anti-virus) running? When I was an technical support advisor peoples AV would always cause strange issues, Norton was the worst with this in my opinion. And I always continue to shut down mine (AVG Free) temporarily when I go upon BoB and other games as problems sometimes result.

Also run an scan. Something about keyloggers causing such problems coming upon google.

Maybe I was not clear,

Options->Controls and keymapping

At the bottom hit "default" and then try some in game keys.

I have tried that already and it makes no differance :(

i just dont understand my keyboard works for everything else just fine it just bob2 that is seems to not work with.
I have tried a fresh install, can i just check my setup file is correct ? I bought the game from a2asimulations but not sure if this is the correct set up file

BOB2_v206 size 435,752 KB this is what ive been using as my base game but im getting a funny feeling that it not the right one maybe ?

also once ive installed it asks me where i wish to run bob config so i use default c:/ path etc is this correct as thats where ive installed the game or should i install it to c:/programfiles (86x) ?

I guess im just clucthing at straws here sorry to be a pain

If you have tried re-setting all keys to default and the keys still do not work then you either have a hardware problem of a bad install, IMHO.

The A2A CD is at the 2.06 level. The newest BOBII update is at the 2.12 level.

Lets try a fresh install following this procedure exactly:

Each Step is Important (Note- do not worry about the MultiSkin for now as you can install it later when you are working correctly)

1. download and unpack the 2.12 self installer or re-download the 2.12 just in case you had a corrupted download the first time
2. Uninstall old version or BoBII
3. Delete all files from the BoBII folder (leave none). [IMPORTANT: These old files left by the uninstaller can cause issues with the new EXE.]
4. Run a registry cleaner (like CC cleaner - a free program) as you had an old install of BobII (Important to cleanup)
5. Install BoBII Base Game download you purchased from A2A(2.06 version)
6. Run (by double clicking to execute) the 2.12 Update that you downloaded. The self loader should find the BOBII folder where you installed your Base 2.06 game.

Cheer buddye,

I have just followed your steps exactly , i had already just wiped old install and cleaned with cccleaner again. * I deleted all files relating to battle of britain 2 *
I installed the original digital download i recieved from A2A (2.06)
and just installed the new 2.12 update

The probem is still there no keyboard in game i still have to ctrl, alt, del to exit the game from the runway :(
I have been playing Il-2 1946 and cliffs of dover tonight and my keyboard is functioning fine with those games.

Any further ideas or shud i give up and resign to the fact that its not going to work ?

Have you installed the latest DirectX 9 or just got DirectX 11 as I seem to remember that even though having an later DirectX we would still need to download and install 9 as parts in that were needed. I at least did. Buddeye could probrably confirm that or not...
In the RAF they say an landing's ok, when the pilot gets out and can still walk away.
But in the FAA the prospect is grim, when the landings piss-poor and the pilot can't swim.
Cracking show, I'm Alive, But I've still got to render my A25!

OK, let's see if we can dig into this: first, are you saying that
no keystroke ever does anything at all when you are in the 3D?
I can get the rest of the game to work but this is stopping me from playing as
although i have a decent joystick i still need my keyboard for specific functions.

So you get into the 3D OK, and your joystick works the control surfaces,
throttle revs the engine? Have you poked about to see if all the keys are
dead? In a basic takeoff mission in an RAF machine, do you get any response
to things like the various view keys, ie Q,W (lean left, right) or F6 (external view)
F8 to F12 (various other views), numpad +,- (view zooms), that sort of thing?

(And I presume you know already that Alt-X is what ought to get you out
of the 3D.)

If the keyboard works for the GUI (entering text fro the campaign screens)
then I think next I will repeat tipsypo's question: please look in the
[bobroot]\keyboard\ folder and see if you have a file called keys.txt, and if
when opened in notepad it looks similar to the image he's posted (the
file has about 240 lines of text, all similar to those in the image).

Next question: do you have any sort of special "gamer's" keyboard with
extra bells and whistles, or is it just a typical standard computer keyboard?

I'll have to think about this further...
