Interestingly if you apply some of the special effects mods such as this one
http://a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtop ... 10&t=33291 it copies such a file into the BOB2 root. (older than the one you showed Jeff).
This mod didnt affect my fps but I havent had any crashes either.

Yes, Buddye, the d3d9.dll file in Windows\System32.

Post by MattArgo »

That's the one! I just copied it and pasted it into the main root folder of my BobII installation.
So far I've been playing campaign and only had one CTD in Campaign when I tried using the radio (T).
So there might still be some issues but I am back playing at native resolution of 1920 x 1080.
I'll check back in with updates.
Cheers
Neill

The Crashlog for that maybe of interest as we thought the radio related CTDs were fixed.

But good news if you are flying again, personally I havent done enough stick time since the update but I 'feel' like it is more stable than 2.11, largely due to the amount of testing done by a small number of people.
The BDG are always looking for more people to do precisely that. 8)

Hey Cherkassov, good to hear from you.
I'm hoping to get some time in today to
check out the new features of 2.12.
Have you done some testing for BDG?
Hope you enjoy some air time soon.

Stickman! Yes, that is the right file.

The d3d9.dll in the Windows\System32 file just like in your posting.
I just copied it into the main BoB2 installation folder.
I'll see if it continues to work and report back in.
Glad you liked "dogfought". Maybe we invented a new word! ;)

Problem has returned in Campaign mode.

Post by MattArgo »

Bad news! :( CTDs occurring after 3 or 4 minutes in Campaign mode.
Tried reinstalling the d3d9.dll again but no luck.
Maybe it will work after a fresh system boot...
Oh, well, back to the drawing board.
P.S. I tried SweetFX which came with its own d3d9.dll but
it did not seem to work and the CTD occurred quickly.
I deleted all the files and tweaked all my settings.
I did notice that the CTD seemed to happen during a
"stutter" while the program loaded details during a dogfight.
I turned off auto preload but not standard preload.

I never mess with those Preload options. I always keep them as given. Best to do so.
Long ago stuff, mostly for testing things, 15 years ago, as I recall.
They should not even be in Options anymore, in my opinion.

I have a bad reputation within the BDG for throwing rocks, whilst everyone else there behave like gentlemen.
Never tried to attack the Game User Interface yet, as I got other things to improve.
Hhhmmhhm? I should have never sold my Remington 12 gauge pump-action shotgun, 20 years ago.

Good idea, Stickman...

Pass me your Remington when you're done.
I got me a game here that needs to be
put out of my misery!

Let me know what you figure out...I'm having the exact same issues with Windows 8 64. Taken the same measures too...

In Options->Adv.->Game , then check Skip In-Game Videos

There is a guy at Sim HQ who is running BOBII Win8 64 bit without issues so it be a setting. Here is the link:

Also note the COD Win 8 change that was posted by Heinkill.

Buddye, Late update.

Last Saturday, January 26, I was trying to install EE2 and a new webcam, the Logitech C920. My system crashed. Nothing could log me back into Windows 8! No Safe Mode, no nothing! After trying the Windows Repair disk to no avail and consulting the internet for solutions, it became clear that my user profile had been deleted somehow. So I had to reinstall my entire OS. I opted to reinstall Windows 7. It took me all day Sunday and today is Thursday. Naturally, I installed BoB2 v2.12 immediately just to try it and LO and BEHOLD! It worked! No crashing in any mode. There is some stuttering at various points but no crashing so far...
Using Kaspersky AV same as before.
I wonder if I was knocked out by a virus in the EE2 download because EE2 froze up my Win8 system from which it never recovered. Needless to say I deleted all traces of it. The new webcam is working well however!
Just thought I'd let you know.
Tally Ho!
