The "BOB English text" CTD

This seems to be the commonest CTD error message at the moment so it might be worth stickying this thread for others to report in. I have just sent through crashlog and dxdiag files to Shockwave along with my BDG and BDG_OUT.text files.

I have only been playing in the Instant Action area of the game so far and I get this error on every mission at generally random locations, but usually within the first 5 mins of gameplay. There seems to be no pattern to it as I can get the CTD on 1v1 missions as well as 1v60+

Basic system specs are:

Win XP SP2
Direct X 9c
AMD 64 XP 3200
1 Gig 3200 400mhz Corsair RAM
160 gig SATA Maxtor HD
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo
Sparkle Geforce 6600GT 128mb graphics (nvidia 71.89 drivers)
Audigy 2 ZS soundcard (output via headphones) - latest drivers
LiteOn DVD ROM/CD RW combi drive
Iiyama 19" Prolite E481S LCD monitor with 1280x1024 native res at 60hz
No background programs running

Hi Mad,

I've not had any crashes since yesterday. I've dropped a lot of settings down a notch or too and I'm gradually working my way back up to try to isolate the error.

JamesB posted (on SimHQ IIRC) that GroundObject Density should be set to low as the other settings are really only meant for the future.

I'm still only averaging around 15-20fps whether on my own or in the middle of a massive dogfight which seems strange but at least the CTD have stopped for now. Touch wood!

Thats good news - post when/if you get the CTDs again and let us know which setting tipped it over the edge.

I already have ground object density set to low as is the weather/clouds, but still get the CTDs

Mine is exactly the same, but usually happens after 2/3 missions.

Interesting. Are all setting graphical in nature? How much VRAM do you have?

Yes, ground object density is currently the worst option fps wise.

BTW - re the "english text" title: I think this is a sort of generic description.

Madbadvlad, Can you click on the "show me what the report contains" and send it to us? This is an extremely long shot, but fairly quick to test.

Osram - have just emailed the appcompat.txt file that XP tries to send to Microsoft after a crash. There is also a bob.exe.mdmp file that it tries to send which is 56mb - do you need that too?

Osram-

Specs in Sig (I hope)

I started out with everything maxed, and I mean everything. I was getting the 'English Text' crash about 50% of the time. The first thing I did was to lower the GroundObject Donsity and Weather Setting. This seemed to stop the crashing.

What I can't understand is that changing other settings such as screen res, horizon distance and/or various combinations of graphic settings doesn't appear to affect fps. I always seem to get an fps hovering around 14-15.

I wonder, does the game force the use of Vsync? I have Vsync off but the fps I get always seem to be a fraction of my refresh rate which is what Vsync does if it cant render all 60fps on my 60Hz display.

Maybe a red herring, maybe not.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

Just got the dreaded crash. The only change was to set weather effects from Med->High.

Back to testing.

Following Scotts advice I deleted the Settings.cfg file in the Save Game folder to get the settings back to default. I still got the CTDs and here is the feedback you asked for..........

Weather - Low
Town & Forest Raises - Off
Horizon Distance - Low
Object Quality - Low
Ground Object Density - Low
All other options settings at default

I then played the Black Thursday AM historic instant mission as Hurri 1A at default mission settings. The BOB English text CTD occured at a point where I turned in behind a mass of bombers on the left of the screen. Just after the radio message "Now, Now, Get Him" - followed by "That was Close"

I then played the Intercept instant mission - Rear Attack on Bombers - Hurri 1A at default mission settings. The BOB English text CTD occured as I pulled left and in behind the bomber formation and started to fire the first few bursts - it always happens at this point in this mission

I had a look at that rear attack mission and the highest Ju88 LoD is used quite far, but not completely unreasonably. Does it also happen at that point if you don't shoot?

Tried the bomber rear intercept again - yes it always happens even if I don't shoot and always at the same point. I also tried flying externally in chase view to make sure that nothing else was affecting the plane eg. a collision or flak damage and even externally it will crash at the same place ie. tucked in behind the ju88s and keeping pace with them after the initial pass of the 109 fighters overhead and to the left at the start of the mission. Flak is rising and other Hurris and Spits are attacking the ju88s. I am still testing on the default .cfg and option settings as in post above.

Hi

I had a CTD when playing Black thusday & just as reported befor it was as i pluued in behind a mass of bombers. The crash log metiond HE111 textures , I'lll see if i've still got it.
