I am having a problem using th S key to draw a central box--in both the options and bdg.txt I have agreed the Draw Box option but what seems to happen when I press the S key is that a red outline is drawn round the very ouside of the screen an not in the centre of the screen
Any thoughts on cause and possible remedy for this
Many thanks.

Thanks -yes--I can remember from several years ago when I first played and before my long break, that with "S" a red square appeared mid view and could be locked on enemy target. I recall it was extremely useful in a fast moving brawl.
But now I only get a red outline round whole screen.
Could it relate to any of my other settings like widescreen 1920/1080 or my change of view-start -distance from 3.1 to 1.3 in bdg.txt
Please let me know if any other ideas come to mind.
Thanks again
NB 1 Also how do you set up that useful hud compass ?
2 Why do all the ground buildings etc appear transparent
Promise to lay off all the questions now --at least for a time
Cheers

The large compass and the other gages are our 2D gauge system. You might be able to find a topic with search to tell you how the 2D gauge system works and how to set it up. Stickman is the expert on the 2D gauge system.

Yes, the wide screen monitor may be a issue with the S key my monitor is 1600X 1200 normal (not wide screen). Stickman has also been involved with the wide screen S key issue.

You can use just a padlock (enter key) or other padlock optons (see user manual appendix H).

I still have this problem when pressing the S key for "central target". The flashing red box (to indicate degrees of central target selection) only appears at the monitors edges, still.
Here is a discussion of this from long ago, with my experiments and analysis. Sometime after v2.10 release:

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=19695&hilit=S+key

Central targeting does still work OK, and different degrees selected are still OK,
but the flashing box which tells you what the selected degrees to target within looks like, is broken to appear at the monitor edges.
Wide screen monitors and non-wide monitors.

Also to log this as more than just those two players mine also would just go to the screens edge no matter the setting I seemed to use on the padlock. However was not a problem for me as I did not really want the box drawn anyway. I do not have an widescreen monitor and my game is set to 1024 x 768 resolution and I'm using an NVIDIA GFX.
