You will need the latest DirectX to run 2.12 or any new version of BOBII. Even if you have a new PC you will need to update to the latest DirectX 9C. We have had many players trying to run BOBII without the latest DirectX and having CTD problems.

The easiest way to update DirectX is when you run the 2.12 (or the latest) self-installer and the self-installer will point you to the Microsoft update page. Just go ahead and update your DirectX to the latest version.

For all of those who forget or did not update their DirectX and get the missing dll, just re-run the self-installer and update the DirectX when it points you to the Microsoft web page.

It is a Web installer and only updates what is needed. Here is a link to the DirectX web installer:

I'll take advantage of this post's location to emphasize, it doesn't matter if you have a DX9.0c already, nor if you have a DX10 or even a DX11; you must have a DX9.0c that is current for the current patch to run, and µ$ puts out DX9.0c updates (without ever incrementing the version number!!) about every 4 months. Patches are made with software which references the current version of DX9.0c, so that version must be present on your machine.

Edited again to add more visibility...

If you are missing a DirectX component, you will need to update your DirectX.

The easiest way is to just run the self-installer again and follow the DirectX link and update.

Sounds like your 'computer people' are a bunch of lazy boggers and have not updated your computer properly. DirectX for whatever reason known to Microshaft show the DirectX version as the same whether upgraded or not. You need to download and install the genuinely latest version as Buddye explained previously.

That should read d3dx9_31.dll

I had the same problem with D3DX9_37.dll which I resolved by downloading it and dropping it into my System 32 folder. That's how it works for WinXP anyway.

Yup, the d3dx9_37.dll became necessary after the 2.08 update in July. I don't know if it supercedes 31, or if you need them both, but a current DX9.0c (mark 30 or something) will load them all. Or, you can just do them by hand, from here, if you like to get under the hood: http://www.m3fe.com/760

Hi guys, been away for a bit mainly because my machine could not run the sim with the latest patches to my likeing. At the moment, I have a spanking new rig more than capable of running the game, but with Windows7 and DX11. My question is this. I've been reading of the importance of haveing the latest DX9c installed to run v2.11. If I follow the update link from the patch, will I be updateing just the needed files, or will I be overwriting DX11 with DX9c? I really don't want the later to occur. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi fish,

It will just update the needed files. I do not think it overwrites any DX11. I do not have a DX11 video card, so I cannot be 100% sure.

Do let version 2.11 update your DX. If you try to do it manually it will not always do it correctly.

Just wondering if anyone could confirm or deny that this update will or will not change the DX11 on my machine. I used the link provided by Buddye at the top of this thread. The one thing I don't want is to overwrite DX11.

Your DX11 will be fine as it is seperate. We all have the same issue with our newer PC's so we all have updated our DirectX 9C.

Just do the update of DirectX 9c and you should be fine. The web installer will update only what is required for your DirectX 9C.
