Oil Capacity
Anyone know why the dipstick goes up to 10 quarts when the POH says the oil capacity is 12? Total capacity in the Payload/Fuel manager is also apparently 10 quarts.
Re: Oil Capacity
Good catch. Dipsticks for TSIO 520 that can be found on ebay (like one below) indeed have 12qts top mark. 6 is low *.
"Oil capacity 12qts." label on the cap. However, scale on this stick depends on the specific installation in the airplane.

There is an interesting remark in the Type Certificate for TSIO-520-B: Oil sump capacity: 12; 10 usable at 18° noseup
and 14° nosedown attitudes.

* FAR 33.39 Lubrication system (a) The lubrication system of the engine must be designed and constructed so that it will function properly in all flight attitudes and atmospheric conditions in which the airplane is expected to operate. In wet sump engines, this requirement must be met when only one-half of the maximum lubricant supply is in the engine.

Re: Oil Capacity
For IO-520-B, the capacity is 12 with 10 usable at aforementioned attitudes.

Re: Oil Capacity
So the dipstick only reads 10qts so you don’t over fill it?

Re: Oil Capacity
Interesting. I was trying to find some more information but I can’t find a picture of a Continental IO-550 oil dipstick. Maybe Scott can shed some light here...
