There will be an even better cross-country Bonanza soon ;)

But now, after all those N-numbers, one for our Canadians here:

Wonderful liveries Marius!
This last Swiss one reminds me a bit of the one in this video:

I'm going to guess it's this record-setting neighbor of mine...

Sorry if that was unsportsmanlike - but since I sort of live with it, it rang a bell.

Going to paint it two-sided, the way the Smithsonian does? Or pick one?

Well, nearby. Bethesda is in the Washington DC suburbs - just outside the District itself. So Dulles and the Udvar-Hazy center are commutable - about a 35-40 minute drive if traffic is good.

Glad you got the two-sided reference material. It's odd that on the official website they've got 18 photos, and nothing of the right side of the fuselage.

Very interesting, you must know the place by heart.

Yes, it's been bit of a pain to get any right side material. So except for the maps it's all handpainted.

I do. When I lived in New York, I used to make the trip down here just to spend time at the two Air and Space museum locations. A real luxury to have them next door, now. I actually visit the main museum on the Mall more often - the exhibits change there more frequently, and there's now a major gallery-by-gallery renovation going on that'll keep us busy for a few years. But Udvar-Hazy has the restoration gallery, and of course the oversize collection is always worth the trip. I'll probably try to get back out there as soon as the Uhu gets put fully back together.

OT, but it occurred to me last night that we'll soon have your Bonanza and we've already got Jankees' paint of the 353rd FG P-51 "Willit Run?" So a Smithsonian repaint collection could make a nice community project at some point.

Beautiful work on Waikiki Flame or Friendship Beach or whatever we're supposed to call it. Looking forward to the final version!

Alright, here it comes, repaint number 20 (already  ).
I've done every livery that caught my eye during the prerelease days, when I spent hours googling liveries in anticipation, looking for those little things to make them special. And a good share of requests have brought some amazing paintjobs to my attention that I had not seen before. I've noticed with my last repaints that I'm not on that crazy roll anymore, which means I'm making mistakes that I notice once they're up. So with that, and the fact that I'm quite happy with the collection I've got now, I've decided to end my Bonanza series with this following repaint. (For now, withdrawal might kick me back! )

So what's better for the final bird than probably the most historically valuable V-Tail Bonanza out there. Being only the 4th to run from the production line, this Beech has flown two record-breaking tours, each documented on one side of the aircraft.
The first, (March 7-8, 1949) saw her set a nonstop distance record from Honolulu, HI, to Teterboro, NJ, piloted by the legendary William P. Odom.
Every detail of this tour is documented on the left side of the fuselage, for you to compare with the performances of the modern Bonanza. (Don't start calculating costs though, gas & oil combined totalled less then $75 in 1949 8) )
Her second adventure was in control of Congressman Peter F. Mack, Jr., who took her for a solo worldwide goodwill flight. Departing Springfield, IL and returning half a year later to Wichita, KS, the aircraft logged another 33000 very historically relevant miles.

It has been refurbished in 1975 and is since located at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC.
