I have used nothing but the Sperry AP, and a couple of times, usually after I make a large course change on departure or approach , the AP refuses to hold the new heading. It seems to want to turn rapidly in one direction or the other. If I disengage the rudder and aileron , I can hand fly it fine. I check the gyro settings, everything is correct, all trims are proper, I hit ctrl D etc...., and as soon as I engage the AP, while cruising the aircraft makes a sharp turn to the left. I am on a Vatsim flight so I finally switched APs and the other AP works perfectly. Anyone run into this ?
Found the problem. Pilot error. Instead of turning the heading rudder knob I hit the aileron knob by accident. It was set a 53.. No wonder the aircraft wanted to turn.. LOL
