Quick question,

What exactly is a ground blower and what does it do? I see it mentioned in the manual, yet have not been able to find any literature on its function from google. Any help would appreciated, as I'm curious as to what its purpose it.

Thanks in advance.

It's just a fan designed to run on the ground using electrical power to provide air circulation within the cabin. With an engine running, it will also provide cooling.

So would this also be used to heat up the cabin before letting the passengers (suckers) board the plane?? :D

Yes, the ground blower is both for heat or air conditioning.

So that said, the AC compressors are on engines 1 & 4 only? I got this from the 1-17-2017 core update information so I assume it is correct.

This is sometimes a nuisance as I shut engines 1 & 4 off to taxi to gates then I gotta start them back up to cool cabin. However, I'm finding that a comfortable cabin at end of flight is not so critical as it is while boarding passengers unless I have just been getting lucky in that area.

Thanks bunches! 8)

That's true unless you sit there and don't open the door letting them bake or freeze :) The cabin temp will hold for a while even with the door open while people are exiting. Plus people are OK leaving an uncomfortable climate rather than walking into it.

Just saw a short film of LAX in the 50's and it sure looked like a TWA Connie was pulling into their parking spot with only #1 and 4 running. Any one know what the policy was in warm weather operations...when did they shut them down?

Gotcha, thanks for the replies. I figured it had something to do with air circulation, but was unable to find a concrete answer.
