FSX issue undocking 2D panels windows and moving them

Post by gege21 »

Hello,

I was running a flight from LFSD Dijon/Longvic France to EGPE Iverness Scottland, flying over the beginning coast of England (1 hour about after the takeoff) FSX sent me a failure message on a green roll band horizontal (as when we get the ATIS weather report stations) and say that : "FSX event failure, all Stratocruiser function will be disabled, restart FSX."

When this occur my frame rate go down from 30 FPS (I limit the frame rate in the game options) to 0/5 fps stuttering and I can heard the sound of the Connie engines going up and down and the needles of MP and RPM gauges move up and down values.

This is not the first time I got this glitch for the same flight but this is the first time I saw this FSX message.

However this issue don't prevent to continue my flight and after getting those strange behaviour with the Connie, all goes back to seemingly normal. But the FSX message stay on the upper of the screen.

Any idea what this issue could come from ?

I have the latest Nvidia driver N° 378.49 but with the precedent drivers I got the same glitch.

Cheers
Gerard

PS :I don't use FSX DX10 feature only DX9. As addons I have only FTX Global/FTX Landclass EU/FTX Vector/FTX Tree and some freeware airports from ORBX.
Also A2A C172 Trainer/Piper Cub/C182. I use also TIR5 and running in background the saitek software which map some buttons on my two controllers X52 Pro and one Throttle Quadrant. Also the Logitech Gaming Software to bind some programmable keys on the keyboard G19 to shortcuts on a dedicated A2A L049 profil.
And I can add when this issue occur, my CPU (i7 6700 K) is almost at 70/80 % in use. The rest of flight before the issue and after, the cpu is in a range between 30%/40% and some pics at 50%

Re: FSX issue undocking 2D panels windows and moving

Post by gege21 »

Hello,

I believe to have found the issue. As I takeoff at GMT +1 (Northern Latitude and Eastern longitude) and I fly about 1 hour and a half in the west direction when the issue appear I probably cross over the Greenwich meridian so GMT hour and looking at the clock on the virtual cockpit this clock tempt to show one hour counter wise and give some trouble on the whole systems plane.

But this is not only the cause. I discover when undocking the 2D panels windows (i.e. Controls / Crews report) and dragging them, as soon as I hold down the left clic mouse and drag the 2D panel window, the glitch come up : the MP raise to maximum also the BMEP and the RPM's. When I release my left mouse button all come back to normal. What is very strange when docking these 2D panel windows and also dragging on the same way, the glitch don't appear but come up when crossing the Greenwich meridian.

Anyone got this phenomenon ?

How to solve this glitch ? May be setting in the option to untick the "Use system clock for free flight" could be the solution ?

Any advices and help appreciated.

Cheers
Gerard

PS : After research on the web the time zone and UTC GMT hour bug was well known since FS 2004. So now I'm aware for this bug.
But this glitch is still persistant when undocking 2D panel windows and moving them. Although when docked the glitch don't come up.

Hello,

I come back to this little problem after some more tests.

After uninstalling all the ORBX add'ons, verifying game cache files on Steam for FSX, reinstalling the main parts of ORBX add'ons (GLOBAL/LandClass EU/Trees HD/Vectors without freeware airports) and testing with the DX10 FSX feature, I get the same glitch undocking the 2D panels windows and by moving them => the MP/RPM and BMEP raise to maximum. Releasing the left mouse button all come back to normal. Using different A2A aircraft like the C172 and the C182 I own, this issue don't appear.

Does some others have had the same ? I wonder if it is a problem on my side only or if it could be a general issue.

Thanks for you help.

Hi Gerard,

As you have had no replies, it seems like no one else has been having these problems. I once had the green band "FSX event failure, all Stratocruiser function......." message, but it occurred while I was on the ground and had just changed to a Connie from another aircraft. I have never had it while flying.

I regularly undock the 2D panels and sometimes move them from one monitor to another during flight but I have never experienced the issue you describe. I have also crossed the Greenwich meridian a few times on flights between my 'home' airport of EINN and mainland Europe without any problems.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Connie? I have found in the past with other add on aircraft that this will sometimes resolve the problem when an aircraft seems to be having unexplained issues. I hope you find a solution to this problem so that you can get back to fully enjoying one of the greatest ever airliners produced for FSX.

Bill

Oh thank you very much Stratocruiser2 for your answer and feedback report :)

That is an odd issue I get it seems...

Well I'm going to uninstall and reinstall the Connie cause may be something wrong has happened during the install process but I never had error message installation. After the install I had well applied the last patch Accusim update.

Would you like to describe the process to make a very whole cleaned new install for this Connie please ?
Or a link to a helping post to do the entire process how to do a clean install to make me sure to do it on the right manner.

Cheers

Hello,

run the uninstaller from control panel. And then go to your FSX>A2A folder to remove the LO49 connie folder.

thanks,
Lewis

You're very welcome! I see that Lewis has already advised you how to uninstall it and I hope the new installation runs without problems. Please let us have some feedback on whether that resolves the problem.

Hello Lewis and Bill,

Before I will make the uninstall I wished to show you what happens on my side with the 2D panel glitch I get.

Sorry for the very bad English and voice sound (I use an headset integrated microphone) but you should be able to see what I get as glitch. A short video :https://youtu.be/li_063691VY

That looks like very simple `lost focus` issue causing a stutter in the background process while the focus is on the 2d popup.

Have you got strange mods to your FSX.cfg ? Cut n paste the contents of that file and lets take a look although I am reasonably certain it's nothing to do with A2A, save for the starting point when the background process regains focus, because it uses an `outside of FSX` flight model.

Obvious question: How many video cards do you have?
According to that .cfg it's FOUR, which would be highly unusual even for a SLI rig.

search on GTX 980 and see...

Are you using SLI? If not then all the display entries for the `ghost` cards should be removed.

Hi Mallcott,

I only have one graphic card GTX 980 but two displays attached to this GC.

So I don't have SLI.

Ok I will remove the unnecessary entry for the display parameters. It seems like it is displayed on the graphics options in game I need only GTX 980 0.0 (first main monitor) and GTX 980 0.1. (second monitor). To be more precise these two monitors have the same res 1920x1080 @ 60 Hz.

But another question about these display entries on the cfg file. Do I must set these two options to AA enabled and anysotropic feature for my two display monitors or I must leave my second monitor without AA enabled and set to trilinear aniso filter.? As I already read somewhere FSX don't like to have multi monitor with a setting AA and anisotropic feature on the same. I would like to know how those players using three monitors if they settle all the stuff to AA enabled and anisotropic as well.

Thanks for leaning to my probs and your help.

Cheers
Gerard

Hello,

After a total uninstall of the L-049 and reinstall (doing this with administrator rights on W10), applying the latest Accusim patch update after the install, removing all the unnecessary entries for the display stuff into fsx.cfg, settle AA disabled and only trilinear anisotropic filter to my second monitor (in fsx.cfg its described as GTX 980 0.1.)... bammm !!! Nothing has changed I get always the same glitch.

I'm lost to know from what to look at to avoid this little glitch for now.

PS : I remember on the C172 trainer I got a soudain close of FSX without error message: that happened when running a mag test and tempting clearing the spark plug fouled...So I'm thinking it has to do with sounds stuff so how are your setting in windows sounds for the debit rate in frequency and quality. mine are may be a lot too high although I have the latest updated drivers for my Realtek integrated sound board. I use only a stereo (I have only a headset) on a 48000 Hz and studio quality in windows sounds parameters.

But overall what is very strange the glitch moving 2D panels undocked happen only with the Connie and not with the others A2A C172 Trainer neither with the C182T. So I'm thinking it has to do with this L-049.

Re: FSX issue undocking 2D panels windows and moving them

Post by Stratocruiser2 »

Hi again Gerard,

I am sorry to hear that reinstalling the Connie did not solve the problem. I had thought it might just be a corrupt installation but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the issue.

I have looked at your video and although I do not have any problem with my Connies when I move the undocked 2D windows, I have noted similar intermittent spikes in MP and RPM when I am flying in accelerated time, particularly if I use 4x acceleration (I sometimes use that when flying long over-ocean stretches). I don't know if there is any connection between the cause of the MP/RPM glitches which I see in accelerated time and which you see with undocked windows, but maybe someone with more computer knowledge than me might be able to suggest a connection?

Cheers,
Bill

Hello Bill, :)

What is very strange I don't have this glitch with my others A2A C172 and C182T moving the undocked 2D panels windows. That come up only with the Connie.

I was thinking that had to do with sounds may be the settings under windows sound feature but as I'm not really confident with computer stuff I'm going to make some more tests.

Overall it happens only with the Connie which orientate me to the sounds stuff. Although all my sounds drivers are up to date and all the windows updates.

When the glitch appear it looks like blocking the flow of the running game, the game seems stopped for a very quick instant only the time needed to release my left mouse button holding the 2D panel window, then all the game continue to run as normal.
Very odd and strange behaviour on my side.

Thank you for your help anyway.

Cheers
Gerard
