Career mode with no pax, just cargo?

Would I be correct in thinking that I can just load up some cargo and fuel, then go fly, yet Betty will still bring tea & biscuits? And I'll get (virtually!) paid?

As long as the Career Mode is on, your career and salary should be fine, even if you never load a single passenger.

Your salary may not increase as quickly, since you aren't ever doing heroic things that save anybody.

True, but neither am I making the baby cry I need to get some hours under my hat with this beautiful old gal before I upset the cargo of the self-loading kind

Well, I carried out a cargo flight earlier (no pax) and despite career mode being on, the flight wasn't recorded. What did I do wrong?
