So this has happened to me twice in back to back flights. Everytime I am on approach getting ready to sit her down, a baby in the back is screaming it's head off. I found myself screaming at my computer "shut that baby up while I'm trying to land" . I just think that it's annoying how the baby waits til we are on the way down to start fussing and carrying on. And it's not like I'm descending at a fast rate; only about 500 feet a minute.
So the question is, am I a bad pilot, and what is the best way to deal with this in the future?

Hi.
The baby cries when you exceed 500ft pm decent , when you are about 1 to 2000ft altitude from touch down .

Yes it sounds like you are descending too quick for the pressurisation system and causing things such as the baby to cry as its ears pop a little harsher than need be.

Lewis

Re: Am I a bad Connie pilot
I have had that baby on many flights. I never understood why it was crying for the longest time, until recently. I do ILS approaches quite often and as we know they are on a 500-700 fpm descent rate depending on the terrain. I will be 2-5 miles out on a perfect approach and that dang baby starts fuss'n. Now this will be after a 900 fpm descent from cruise altitude with it sleeping away.
I've come to the conclusion that drastic RPM changes will get it fuss'n. Going from say 1700 RPM to 2200 RPM all at once might just wake that baby up. I know make no more than 100 RPM adjustments while on final until I reach my desired setting.
Cheers
Roger

Baby? Heck everyone cries when I fly the Connie
Re: Am I a bad Connie pilot
I think my Connie is broken.... I haven't heard a crying baby yet
I also bump the RPM up 300 when I turn final with no delay.

I'd say give it timeflapman wrote:I think my Connie is broken.... I haven't heard a crying baby yet

Due to what seems to be a perfect ILS approach into San Diego in great weather I came to this conclusion. I have not had the crying baby sense I started watching my RPM changes. The only other possibility I can think of is that Flight Engineer "Bob" is back there with his ear-buds in rocking out and tapping his toes with his leg up against the pressurization panel rubbing the knobs back and forth . Who knows 'cause I took his walkman away the same day I started watching my RPM's

I think when we get a chance we should release a United Air Lines livery complete with a cabin attendant that can beat up a passenger and a large valuable bunny rabbit we can put in the cargo hold that we can cremate if we want to.Lewis - A2A wrote:Yes it sounds like you are descending too quick for the pressurisation system and causing things such as the baby to cry as its ears pop a little harsher than need be.

Re: Am I a bad Connie pilot
Lewis, it was my decent rate. I was descending later than I should. So now I am working on my 27th career flight (KPNS - KSAT) and no more screaming passengers or baby. Thanks for your advice.Lewis - A2A wrote:Yes it sounds like you are descending too quick for the pressurisation system and causing things such as the baby to cry as its ears pop a little harsher than need be.

Micah.
P.S. when can we get a peek of the next aircraft? I'm dying to know

Re: Am I a bad Connie pilot
I'm glad you got it sorted.
It may have been a fluke that I was experiencing with the RPM's. I'm not sure if Accu-Sim monitors that but most likely not. I did think of another option that could be causing the baby to fuss. Going back to your original post of 500 fpm approaches, when flying FSX or FSX-SE with Real World Weather (update every 15 minutes) there are times that an update will change the weather drastically. I know that I have had the baby cry on perfectly executed ILS approaches and if it's not the RPM change then it could be a drastic pressure change. I have not had this issue in P3Dv4 with ASP4.
Just a thought....
Cheers
Roger

Ahh that's good, the climb and descents tend to be a bit longer with the classics over the modern tubeliners.
