Question about pax

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.
The Connie L049 according to different sites visited state the connie L049 could carry between 60 and 81 passengers and in close order seating up to 105 , yet the A2A carries a max of 44 passengers , could someone at A2A please inform me as to why you chose 44 as the max number and where this info came from , so i can inform my VA management they have the wrong figures , as they are quoting 60 to 81 .

Looks like the original design requested by TWA wa for 40 passengers. https://www.globalsecurity.org/military ... /l-049.htm

I also question the sites that say an L-049 can carry 105 passengers in anything other than sitting on the floor stacked knee to knee. Even 80 seems a bit high considering the size of the cabin. 60 might be possible in some configurations, but that would have been late in life with more modern seats than originally delivered.

Also, understand that a lot of sites confuse the L-049, L-749, and L-1049 and will randomly give you stats from each of the major series of Connie.

Hi Capflyer.
I have to agree with you that these figures seem excessive and think 44 to 50 might be right amount , just asking where the figure of 44 came from so i can argue my case with my VA that they have figures that are too high , with some firm evidence , as the figures they quote seem to come from wikipedia , and i have so far been unable to find a definative number of pax for the L049 connie.

Alan,

Glancing over accident statistics for the L-049 should give you a (rather poignant) snapshot of how the number of souls carried varried over the decades. During the 1940s and 1950s, it seems it was typical for the number of persons on board to be in the 35-50 range. However, once we reach the 1960s, we start to see accidents where the total death toll was in the high 70s or—in one case—85. Additional info here on Wiki.

Presumably the more luxurious cabin layouts of the 40s and 50s had given way to higher density configurations by the 1960s. In other words, there's no such thing as a "definite" passenger capacity.

Cheers,
Nick

I was a VA member for years, but not anymore. I would just send them an email and tell them that the aircraft you are flying has a seat capacity of 48, and that's that. I am sure they don't know squat about the L 049.

FWIW, this TWA timetable states 41 punters (bottom left):

This is not to say that our hosts are 'wrong' with 44, because there are plenty of ways to layout the cabin. Just that 60-80 is... generous.
