Carburetor Vapor Return Shutoff Valves ?

Post by DrumsArt »

Hi,

In the manual, I read :
"Solenoid operated shut-off valves, which are controlled by
switches on the engineer’s lower control panel, are installed in
the carburetor vapor return lines. These valves should be OPEN
at all times except when fuel flow readings are being taken."

I don't understand the meaning of "except when fuel flow readings are being taken."

Please, some specialists to explain...

Thank you and Regards,
Richard Portier

It's an item that's in the real airplane but not simulated in the product. It was included in the manual for completeness.

Thank you but I wanted to know which is the function of this item in the real aircraft, just by intellectual curiosity...

I do appreciate the completeness of the A2A manual for the Connie but I have issues with it as well. It would be nice to have an asterisk (*) and a legend telling us that "this function, detail, system is NOT modeled in the A2A version". Might save some time for those of us that have spent 20 minutes looking for the landing gear safety override pin that must be hidden down there... somewhere. Using TrackIR I spent a fair amount of time looking for that little bugger.

My guess is that because the fuel flow meters are actually before the carburetors, they measure fuel flow to the engine plus the return flow. Temporarily closing the return lines would allow you to read "correct" fuel flow without the returning fuel.

Thank you for answering. After some searches on the net, it would seem that this is in connection with an emergency in case of fire of engine nacelle...If I understood correctly...

Could be, but on the fly I'm not able to figure out the connection to "taking fuel flow readings". :)
