Orbx free Airports. You can spend many months flying from one to the other.

I do not have FTX base pack, and both set's of airports work perfectly.

ORBX. I recommend starting with FTX Global Base Pack and then Vector. The view from the front office looks way better than stock FSX. Things can get out of control pretty fast: add Open LC North America, or Open LC Europe, depending upon where you fly. I have some of the regions also, and some of my favorite local airports. I once got a ride in a Bamboo Bomber that was based at San Carlos. Now that was interesting. Too bad they don't have ORBX Half Moon Bay. Great fun getting the J-3 into Fall City!

I can only recommend Orbx FTX global too. I also have the OpenLC Northa America and Europe. It totally changes the way the sim looks.

As for fun airports I was flying into FlyTampa's St Maarten and Aerosofts Gibraltar. I like it when airports have interesting approaches.

Got Global and Vector and looking for some interesting well done smaller airports that would go well with the Connie (example: Orbx Santa Barbara)

As mentioned above, the Orbx airports are nice and compliment the connie. I did a flight from KSFO to KGCN. There's a nice view of the grand canyon and mountains on the flight path.

If you want to try something a bit different and fly the original Connie transatlantic routes you could combine the Orbx Gander freeware and the freeware ocean weatherships with the payware scenery for Shannon Airport from Eiresim. Shannon was the European staging airport for refuelling many transatlantic Connie flights although some also used Prestwick in Scotland. Eiresim have produced very good payware scenery for the airport, however don't expect FlyTampa quality as it was originally developed about 10 years ago for FS9.

Ive found using the map like posted to be of great use as an Orbx customer in helping to explore new places knowing that the destination is going to have a nice place to land at, be it in a connie or a GA or a warbird etc.

thanks,
Lewis

Thanks for the tipps re the freeware OrbX airports.

As a follow-up: Are there any free- or payware airports available (p3dv4 ideally) that are in their historic (i.e. 1940s to 1970s) rendition which would make it really cool to fly to with the Connie? I really doubt it, because everyone usually wants the most up to date rendition of any given airport, but thought I still ask the question :).

Thanks,

Jan

Paul (Warbirds),
If you want to sample the UK, then UK2000 has some fine airports. OK they are up to date and not historic, but Manchester Liverpool, Gatwick, Heathrow are all there. IMHO they are superb, not too fps heavy and relatively cheap. They do demo versions (some are cut down, not as many detailed structures, lack of some airfield markings etc) others have a large floating DEMO sign above the runway!)

Mark.

Many thanks Mark. I have some of the UK2000 airports, and they are very nice indeed. I'll check out the ones that were used for routes in the 40s and 50s and see how they fit the Connie :).

Thanks,

Jan

Have a look on this page: https://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads ... a-scenery/ or for more Ghost Airports just search for "Ghost" on the Flyawaysimulation site.

Thanks both. These are excellent suggestions :). I really like flying the Connie, but the routes kind of need to match the era, so it's good to know we have some options :).

Thanks,
Jan
