KMCC to PNHL in the Connie

Post by cflord »

I did my first over-water flight yesterday. I used the A2A L049 "City of Cheyenne" paint scheme that I got over at SOH. I took off from KMCC MeCclellan, Sacramento, California. McClellan use to be a USAF Base back in 1969 where I was an aircraft mechanic on the EC-121D aircraft. My destination was PNHL Honolulu Intl. Airport in Hawaii. I used a simple flight plan provided by the FSX-SE Flight Planner for the trip. I took off at 82,000 Lbs. GW to include a full load of fuel, 100% (4,735 Gals). The trip was 2,241 NM and took 8.35 Hours, at 15,000' cruise altitude. I chose the 15,000' cruise altitude, because the last "Maximum Range Cruising Chart" in my C-69 FOM was for that altitude and I wanted to do some comparing. I made it safely all the way to PNHL. The FE did his job and behaved himself during the trip. I was waiting for the A2A gremlins to strike some where around the ETP; but they behaved themselves as well. The FE did start to squawk at me on Final Approach, to land the plane, as we were short on fuel. After landing I checked the Payload Manager and it showed the fuel at: #1-8% (120 Gals), #2-15% (124 Gals), #3-15% (125 Gals), #4-8% (120 Gals). Total landing fuel was approximately 489 Gals.

L049 Lockheed Connie, "City of Cheyenne", over the Pacific, on it's was from KMCC to PNHL, 15,000', 2,241 NM, 8.35 Hrs.

Hi Cliff.
Well done , as to him screaming about low fuel , and you may have got a hero remark for getting her down safe , is triggered by the fuel going below 10% in any tank.

Yeah I had to do a long flight at least once. I did the flight in real time so my butt was a little uncomfortable when I finished. I got to watch TV while I was flying!
