L-049 Exhausted repaint ready fo DL

Post by EightyFiftyFive »

Just recovered this one from the jungle near Port Moresby and Jackson's International Airport (AYPY)... got word that she went down after they delivered some supplies to one of the larger villages about 50 miles East from here. Fortunately she was near a main highway so recovery wasn't too much work after disassembling her to get her back to Jackson's Intl.

After assembling the craft we also installed new tires and got the engines working again so she's doing really well mechanically. Next Maybe we'll send it to Florida for new paint but not sure about that. Probably just fly it as you see it here. :P

These pics were taken after about 4 months of assembly and all issues resolved for future flight.

Loving the new (old) paint Alan. Especially the new props / engines / tyres idea.
The de-ice boots look new too. What would they look like if they were cracked and torn? Basically stuffed, after lying in the jungle.
We need some good jungle runners and this one fits the bill very nicely. Thank you.

I need to get some airtime so I'll be putting the brushes away for a bit.

Poor old girl. Will be great to use one of the distressed cockpits with her. Thanks for your contribution. Great work!

Thank You Lewis, Thank You Potuslancer. 8)

Lewis, I can go back to the paint shop and put some bandages on it if you like! What brand of band-aid do you use over there? I'll patch it right up. :P  NOT!
