T-6 & GTN650 not linking to HSI

Post by Dreamsofwings »

Not sure if it is meant to, or if there is something I need to tweak, but I can’t seem to get the GTN unit to link to the HSI instrument. I’ve selected GPS on the cockpit switch but the instrument remains in the off/not receiving input position.
Would anyone have any ideas?

Re: T-6 & GTN650 not linking to HSI

There does seem to be a bit of a bug with the NAV/GPS switch in the T-6 when the third party KLN 90B is installed robkr1208. I'm wondering whether this applies to the GTN 650 too?

Thanks,
Nick

I also have this problem. Apparently this is not a big issue, as no update has solved this problem until today. I could solve the problem by modifying the panel.cfg....

in prepar3d use the panel manager to open the gns400 as a 2D panel, turn it on and close the window again. Then the GTN 650 will work.

Maybe A2A could fix that the next update times.
Thank you!

This is crazy... the above fix actually works, so BIG THANKS for that..

I was testing with an RXP GNS430 and running into the exact same problem...

However after that, I selected the GTN650 in the panel and it worked OK..

Then I went back to the GNS430 and it is also working OK... so something changed, but I do not know what..

Somehow, I believe that the (L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) variable was set to OFF and turning on the GNS400 set it to ON.

My hunch proved correct...

If you equip the T6 with the default GPS, start it up, and turn off the GNS400 power button, and leave the sim..

And then select the RXP GNS430 as the GPS, and start up the sim.. it will not communicate with the VOR gauge in GPS mode.

IF you then add the following code (I added it to the GPS_RXP_430.xml file as follows)

<Gauge Name="GPS_RXP_430" Version="1.0">
<Element>
<Select>
<Value>
(L:AvionicsConfigINI,bool) 0 == if{
2 (&gt;L:GPSConfiguration,enum)
1 (&gt;L:RXPInstalled,enum)
4 (&gt;L:AvionicsConfiguration,enum)
4 (&gt;L:AvionicsConfigurationSaved,enum)
1 (&gt;L:AvionicsConfigINI,bool)
}
<!-- T-6 Texan avionics configuration: 0 - no GPS, 1 - GPSMAP295, 2 - GNS400, 3 - KLN90B, 4 - GNS430 RXP, 5 - GNS430 Mindstar, 6 - GTN650 -->

(A:AVIONICS MASTER SWITCH,bool) (L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) != if{ (L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) ! (&gt;L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) }

</Value>
</Select>
</Element>
</Gauge>

Bingo, then it works again :D

Thanks Bert,

We'll take a closer look at this issue for the next T-6 update.

I installed the RXP 430W with the A2A configurator and the 430W worked but did not send info or test needle deflection on start through the GPS OBS panel mounted toggle switch, then I shift right clicked the upper right of the 430W face plate to get to the RXP settings page to check why. The KX155 with the toggle switch set to OBS NAV had worked fine. But no setup on the RXP settings page worked to get info through the GPS OBS toggle switch to the OBS head.

Before reading above checked into the ini like Bert showed on the172 previously, that the ini is set up more or less like the A2A 172 ini file which had to be fixed yesterday for the same problem with Berts help, which the 172 OBS head is working correctly now.

Just not the T-6 which I checked later.

The above writing is just to verify what I saw.

Then I read the above thread, so I removed the 430W with the RXP add on removal tool in the upper right screen tab.

Went back to A2A configurator to put in the original 400. Everything worked then to the obs through the toggle switch. (That's on the 400).

Reinstalled the RXP 430W and went through all stages again and the OBS head still not receiving even test deflection through the panel mounted GPS OBS toggle switch.

Now I'll go back up and try to re read Berts tricks again to try that changing file text and save. Saving original file in a different location renaming it ahead of time.

Hope it won't always be this hard. But it's a relief and good when it works and makes you appreciate when it's easy.

Curiosity is, if changing the file, and then there is a corrected fix in a later update. Will the new file automatically copy in from an update?

I added to the GPS_RXP_430.xml file like Bert said above.

(A:AVIONICS MASTER SWITCH,bool) (L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) != if{ (L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) ! (&gt;L:GpsOnSwitch,bool) }

Still not working. I did save the original file.

I imagine at this point it is something with the Shift right click settings of the 430W upper right face plate.

Oops just got an email to try something else.

Ok did exactly what Bert said and also made sure the shift right click on the 430W upper right face plate to open the rxp settings screen selections are configured like the picture attached in the link below. Now it works perfect through the 430W lower left GPS /VLOC election switch and the OBSGPS/OBSNAV selection panel mounted toggle switch which both need to set to GPS.

Settings page picture attached if it attaches.

Thanks for the info an8pilot. As mentioned above, we'll do our best to include an 'official' fix for any GPS/CDI connectivity issues in a future update to the P3Dv4 T-6.

Kind regards,
Nick
