Accu-sim update fail

Post by Ron Attwood »

This is not just the Texan but all A2A aircraft.
PC. Asus Maximus VIII Hero
CPU Intel i7 6700K (not o/c....yet)
W7 (which is refusing to do updates)

All my fleet installed without a murmur.
Went to run Accu-sim Update 05-09-16
It found each aircraft (everything with one engine + B17) tried to do update and error message popped up (haven't I had enough grief?) 'WyUpdate has stopped working' We have got all our best men working on a solution, Love, Microsoft'
It's the same result for each successive aircraft.

I've Googled until Google said I've run out of searches. Nothing.

Lewis, step up to the plate...Please. :D

This is for Lewis to answer, but can you try starting Windows in safe mode with networking on? Just wondering if there is some kind of conflict.

The other possibility is to put a folder with the fsx.exe inside on a thumb drive, and install all aircraft into this folder, then run the update from another computer.

I'm just trying to isolate why the updater won't run on your PC.

If it's a clue, Windows Update doesn't work either. The internet is awash with people with the same problem. None of the cures I've tried have worked. I no longer care if Windows is updated! :D I don't think this is an A2A issue. In fact I'm sure it isn't. :)

Ron,

I had a Win7 PC which refused to update not so long ago. It was one which hadn't been switched on for ages and the Microsoft Fixit and Win7 Update Troubleshooter didn't help.

Turned out the culprit was that the system date was dramatically out (I guess because the battery on the motherboard had discharged and Windows wasn't connecting to its online time server). When I finally noticed and corrected the date, Windows Updates were 'mended'.

Cheers,

If it turns out to be that simple......You'll hear the scream from there.

EDIT: No luck. System time spot on. Ran Accu-sim update again..same result. Interestingly the Texan seemed to take a stab at it. But no. :?

Ron,

How long are you waiting for the update? I have both experienced recently - and read - how painfully slow W7 Update takes to come back with updates. I think I have read "hours"... mine not that long, but certainly something where I walked away for a while.

Are you talking Accu-sim Rob? There's no choice. Windows Update, I tried to do just one update and got called away. An hour later it had installed.

I had the thought if W7 wasn't updated then maybe something missing that the A2A update needed like maybe the correct .net framework version (just a wild guess btw). :?

You tried after getting completely updated with Win7 deleting the Update folder for each A2A aircraft and re-running the accu-sim update?

Hurrah! I selected just one update, set it in motion and forgot about it. When I came back to it, it had installed. Next I selected all the 32 .net 3.5 updates. Pressed the tit and let it roll. It downloaded and installed like a good PC should.
Feeling cocky now, I ran the Accu-sim update. Eu-bloody-reka! All updated in the approved manner. :D

Now it's just fiddling with stuff to get FSX whipped into shape.

Thanks Rob and Scott

File this fix away somewhere safe.

Glad I could be of assistance...

The only other thing I could think of was to bring you a ceremonial knife so that you could die with honor.

Here's to hoping each remaining install is nothing more than an ennui. :|

Ron,

Glad you are up and running. It's nice to know that if anyone has an issue with our updater, another thing to try is make sure you run the Windows update.

Cheers Scott. The root cause of the problem was that Windows Update wasn't working at all. Consequently it couldn't install .net 3.5. I doubt if you'll ever get that scenario again. It's one I wouldn't have missed for the world! :D
