keyboard emulator

Post by gnocgnoc »

Hi All,

I’m more and more interested in doing a kind of cockpit for the T-6, using a keyboard emulator. I’ve absolutely no experience in that field so maybe I should first sort few questions... :|

As far as I can see LINDA software is only working with joystick, throttle etc. It seems not to be able to manage keyboard (and therefore Keyboard emulator). Am I right ?
If so then does FSUIPC( registred version) can be used on its own to map A2A variables to a custom Keyboard emulator?

Also, I’ve seen that FSUIPC registred version is available in different version depending on which sim version you’re using. FSUIPC5 5.124 is for Prepar3D Version 4 and FSUIPC4 4.971 for all the other versions( fsx included).

I’m currently using FSX but I’ll probabelly to switch to P3d one day or another.
Now the question is should we pay to go from a FSUIPC version to another? :?

IMO, FSUIPC4 (or 5) is essential for anyone contemplating building a sim pit (cockpit) for FSX or P3D.

The ability to map controls (switches, buttons, axis) and keys to the commands and L:Variables of the sim is a most powerful utility. Also, the use of Lua scripts further extends the utility of FSUIPC.

I have both versions, registered, and could not see doing without them.

I have a Logitech G-13 that I use on my 'traveling laptop' and have multiple FSX functions mapped to the keys of that device making it functionally similar to my dual Saitek throttle quadrant switches.

Hi Gypsy Baron,
I have both versions, registered, and could not see doing without them.
Not sure to understand. Should I pay for (FSX FSUIPC- 4)then once more for P3D (FSUIPC-5) ?

Yes, they are different products. Pete does a fantastic job of keeping the P3D version 'current'. Every time Lockheed-Martin makes a change to P3D, FSUIPC5 has to be updated as well.

If you are not going to continue to use FSX then you won't need FSUIPC4.

Pete does a fantastic job
No doubts he did... But my wallet is not too thick so I've to sort my priorities. Switching to P3d requires some money.
- We have to pay again for A2A aircraft... (if they are available in that version).
- As P3D is 64 bits then it would be a sin not to use it's new memory capabilities. So, you know what ? We have to get a better computer to really get the best of it...
- Hey! With all this new capabilities it would be stupid not to buy these gorgeously detailled sceneries!

So yes Pete did a great job but at the end of the story the simmers are totaly broke... :(

Hi all,

I finally bought a registered version of FSUIPC.

I use it in conjunction with LINDA, it works fine on my HOTAS.
Now the next stage for me is to choose the right interface between my future T-6 panel and LINDA.
I think i’d need some rotary encoders (for altimeter, heading indicator etc...), on/off switches, 3 way rotary switches (fuel tank and flap lever) and a 4 ways rotary switch (magneto).
Can someone advise me ? I found several stuff on desktopaviator.com but I dont know if these interfaces are recogniezed by LINDA nor which model would fit the best to my requirements.

Not sure what you have in mind, but I have found this video blog very informative. https://youtu.be/9M8VoUOHmKU He also created a E book that is only couple bucks at amazon if it further peaks your interest. He uses bodner boards which you can buy on web. I also recently have been looking at ARDUINO MEGA 2560 REV3 as another option using https://www.mobiflight.com/en/documentation/module.html

Don’t forget to look for switches outside flight sim online stores, in my experience they are more expensive as the normal electronic suppliers.
Kind Regards

HI gnocgnoc

I used 8 USB boards from Desktop Aviator for my build and they work great. Windows, FSX, FSUIPC, LINDA and Spad.Next all see the boards as joysticks.

You can see my home cockpit here: P-51 Mustang (Military & Civilian) \ P-51D cockpit build

I agree that you can find less expensive rotaries and switches than DTA and that is exactly what I did. Depending on where you live there may be stores close by that have devices you can use or you can order online.

Here are some of the sources I used:
http://www.mpja.com Very reasonable prices
http://www.mouser.com Have custom switches
http://www.digikey.com Have custom switches
http://www.parts-express.com
http://www.adafruit.com
http://www.switchdepot.com
http://www.allelectronics.com

I hope this helps.

HI gnocgnoc

Glad to help.

My cockpit build is here on the A2A forum under the topic P-51 Mustang (Military & Civilian) then just look for P-51D cockpit build.

There are a lot of helpful people here on the forums so just ask.

Take care
