odd engine control

Post by alan CXA651 »

Hi.
Today i decided to take the texan for a spin , i parked the aircraft at KBFI , ASN giveing weather , which was raining , started engine , after first checking in the hangar , that all was well .
Engine was ticking over badly , and eng running rough , shut it down , did another hangar visit , still all showing well , as its been a few weeks since last flight , i thought change plugs/oil , restarted eng , but still running rough , carb temp looked ok , but decided to try a bit of heat , this made no difference.
I then turned ASN off , engine slowly started to respond , once she was running correctly , i did a flight , parked up , shut down eng , restarted ASN , restarted eng , problem came back , i was confused as to why , clutching at straws , decided to look at FSUIPC control ini , found the entry for the texan , and found some strange entry , that was out of the ordinary , luckily i kept backups of every alteration to the aircraft fsuipc configs , and the first corruption of this entry happened 7 months ago , but this was the first flight in wet conditions since then , and its worked purfect in the dry , rectified the corruption , which was an extra line in the axis section.
This was playing havoc with the mixture control , since puting it back to what it should have been , my texan now works correctly .
I thought i would share this info , incase anyone else suffers from a rough engine in wet weather .
Now when i get some time i am going to have to go through my fsuipc ini file line by line , and check against every aircraft entry , for anymore annomallys , but i am still perplexed as to what caused this entry in the first place , because its impossible to get an entry like that , by useing fsuipc buttons/sws/axis setup within the program.

Unless you are flying out of a high density altitude airport or have excessively high ambient air temperature your mixture should be in full rich.
It sounds like you might just be idling too slow. We programmed the engine to run rough below a normal idle RPM. It will even backfire on occasion if you misuse the throttle and get a bit too aggressive with a power increase.

Hi Dudley.
This was not a fault of the aircraft , nor a fault on my engine settings , but a fault in FSUIPC in the controls axis , below is a copy of the section that caused my problem line 5 as been added (mystery)and line 6 should be line 5:-

[Axes.A2A T-6 Texan]
RangeRepeatRate=10
0=0X,256,F,66387,0,0,0
1=0Y,256,F,66388,0,0,0
2=0Z,256,D,3,0,0,0
3=1X,256,D,19,0,0,0
4=1Z,1,D,6,0,0,0
5=1Z,D,-16384,-1560,65777,0,65775,0
6=1U,1,D,21,0,0,0
7=1V,1,D,28,0,0,0
8=2X,1,D,1,0,0,0
9=2Y,1,D,2,0,0,0
10=3X,1,D,4,0,0,0
11=3V,256,D,5,0,0,0

This a how it should have been:-

[Axes.A2A T-6 Texan]
RangeRepeatRate=10
0=0X,256,F,66387,0,0,0
1=0Y,256,F,66388,0,0,0
2=0Z,256,D,3,0,0,0
3=1X,256,D,19,0,0,0
4=1Z,1,D,6,0,0,0
5=1U,1,D,21,0,0,0
6=1V,1,D,28,0,0,0
7=2X,1,D,1,0,0,0
8=2Y,1,D,2,0,0,0
9=3X,1,D,4,0,0,0
10=3V,256,D,5,0,0,0

I have now rectified the fsuipc entry , and tested it , but how it got corrupted is still a mystery I need to investigate.

It's interesting about FSUIPC. Even knowing Pete Dawson's program is quite an add on for FSX and that I have a registered copy I've avoided using it to eliminate error possibilities when searching for bugs in new aircraft during our Betas. I use settings in FSX ONLY for my controllers and I've found them to be quite accurate really with little or no errors.
In the many years I've been using MSFS I've always managed my controllers this way.
Glad you got it sorted out.
