Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
So... did a run with 25 lbs of fuel in each tank. Raced with mixture to best power, max rpm and max throttle which gave me around 34" at the 5000' airport. Race was until both fuel warning lights came up. This added 0.6 hours to the engine.
Than I did a second run again with 25 lbs of fuel in each tank and running until both warning lights came on. Another 0.7 hours to the engine:
Leaving the lap, trailing blue smoke:
Clearing of the engine before shutdown also burns oil:
And the result, repaired the left brake to see all the compression test results:
Oil 100% before engine start, after shutdown 85%.
Cylinders are wearing fast under this stressful conditions. Looking forward to the next runs.
Regards
Jens

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
wow it looks like the engine does not like being operated that way I wonder how many more flights before it fails.
Thanks for the update

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
Did you time any of the laps, Jens? It would be interesting to see how the performance is affected by the engine wear.
Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
I was too concentrated not hitting the ground or pylons, I haven't timed any laps.
IAS was around 150 kts I think.
edit: changed mph to kts, cause I use the knots airspeed gauge.

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
I feel like it would be hard to time does laps with enough accuracy without exact equipment. Trying to see a difference in IAS is probably the best bet here.

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
525.1h, 0.5h more. Takeoff RW32 and 6 laps of racing on the T-6 course.
Problems during runup, engine rumbles and shakes.
Putting in full rich mixture after the race to cool down brought down the rpm, so I had to lean it out. This wasn't a problem yesterday.
Changed airspeed unit to knots in the post above, cause I realized, I have the knots airspeed indicator installed. Still around 150 knots in straight and level at finish line.

Waiting for the big bang...

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
No big bang at the moment, but stuttering
Maintenance hangar tells me to rebuild. Was still able to fly, but failed power check on runup. But it's just a sim, runway is long, will see, what will happen next.

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
Except for the lineup and after finish line, everything is max rpm, max throttle and best power mixture. So cyl. head temps are always in the yellow range, cause I use wheather settings from 18.09.2016 when OAT was around 30°C.

Next two... The first after 10 laps of the unlimited course.
Still flying, still burning oil, getting harder to start.

Re: Reno Racing the A2A T-6
Oh boy that engine sure has seen it. I'm rather suprised that it still starts up with 5 cylinders being done!?
How is the performance? I'm sure she doesn't develop a lot of power anymore!
