Beacon strange behavior

Post by olivier moens »

Hi,

first thank you for this wonderful aircraft, by far the most realistic I have in my hangar.

As the title says, I have a very strange issue with the rotating beacon.

I am running FSX SE and W7pro

I will try to be synthetic
Aircraft state:

Master switch On
Engine running
Alternator charging
Tested with and without tip tanks
DEFAULT landing lights (sharp triangular pattern on ground)

1-Beacon switched ON (strobe OFF landing lights OFF ) :
the texture of the beacon changes slightly, it comes from dark red to a more saturated (steady) red.

2-Strobe switched ON (beacon ON LDG light OFF):
the beacon start flashing at the same rate than the strobe light. The intensity of the flashes varies cyclicaly probably at the rhythm of the rotating.
If NAV lights are ON, both tail lights start flashing at strobe rate. (white steady base with flashing overlay)

3-At least one of the landing light switched ON (beacon ON, strobe ON or OFF):
the beacon has a realistic rotating effect, independantly from the strobe flashing rate
If NAV lights are ON, tail lights become steady white.

Same conditions with custom landing lights (softer pattern on ground)

Same behaviour as above (point 1 and 2) but landing lights switching OFF or ON has no influence at all.
the beacon flashes and tail Nav lights flash at the strobe rate.

Is it serious, doctor?
Cheers,

Olivier Moens

Hello Olivier,

I just took a little time to test for what you describe, and I wasn't able to reproduce the issue. I tried in both FSX-SE and P3D v3.4 (in each case using the 'custom' landing lights, both with and without tip tanks) and in spite of all beacon/strobe/landing light combinations I tried, the beacon lights and stobe(s) always flashed at their own independent rate. In other words, I didn't see them 'synchronising' as you describe.

Do you use the DX10 preview in FSX-SE?

Thanks,
Nick

Spot on...

I am new with FSX SE (I was using FS9 so far) , and your Comanche is one of the first planes I bought. I didn't pay attention to the checkmark in DX10 preview box.
I 've just unchecked it, and now it works as intended.

Thank you for your assistance.
Cheers,

Olivier Moens

No worries Olivier. :) The DX10 preview was an unfinished feature of FSX; however, it's possible to use it reliably with the (payware) third party DX10 Controller software. Otherwise, you really need to stick with DX9 mode.

Glad to help, though I'm not part of A2A so can't claim any credit for the lovely Comanche. It's a fine choice though - please let us know if you have any more questions or issues.

Cheers,
Nick

Glad to hear your up and running but just to add to Nicks post if you do end up going Dx10 with the Steve Dx10 fixer you'll want to remember to run the effects converter otherwise you'll have similar issues again.

thanks,
Lewis

Without DX10Fixer...

With...

DX10 makes lights and shadows much more realistic.
