You are a star. You guessed right... Problem solved.
Looks I turned that option inadvertently. It's tricky, I turned DX10 off, back to DX9, and, as it did not change anything, I considered DX10Fixer "discharged".

That's the thing with FSX - after nearly 10 years of third party development, there are so many different add-ons and external programs that can cause unexpected results, it's sometimes a devil to pin down errors.
