RXP GPS 530

Post by Orlaam »

Reality XP is getting ready to release the new P3D and FSX upgraded GNS GPS. Will you be able to integrate them into the Comanche like the F1 GTN so we can use either one?? That'd be great.

Thx :)

Of course, just curious if the option will be explored. The GNS are older and less detailed than the GTN, but I still like them and would like to use them at times is all. RXP always made such perfect products.

The trouble was in the past RXP where selling products with zero after sale support, which made even a basic integration difficult and why we where able to easily work with Flight1 for integration as we where able to email flight1 and get a response. All emails just like customer support came back with no reply from RXP for the old FSX GPS units.

Now that the GNS 530W/430W V2 has been released by RealityXP, let's hope that they reach out to developers like A2A to ensure compatibility with current and future releases.

I like the look of some of the features of the RXP simulation such as the TCAD system and the new Garmin trainer software and I have good memories of RXP products from "the old days". However, I'm reluctant to purchase the new GNS unit(s) unless I know they work with the A2A fleet. If anyone else has already managed to integrate these successfully (it should just take simple panel.cfg edits), I'd been keen to hear. :wink:

Thanks,
Nick

Well - I decided to take the plunge with Reality XP's GNS 530W V2 and seem to have it successfully integrated into my A2A GA fleet. Some minor entries to the panel.cfg are needed to account for the different gauge name and its slightly different dimensions, but everything seems to work properly. Here's a shot of it in the Cherokee in P3Dv4... :)

I'll post some details of the necessary panel.cfg edits later.

Can you post the numbers for the Comanche? I see that you said at Avsim you adjusted it according to your monitor? Wouldn't the monitor resolution/size be irrelevant? I'm anxious to get the 530 in this bird. :mrgreen:

Hi Chris,

Sorry - I meant to post the info here as well. However, the numbers that I posted on the RXP support forum on Avsim should work just as well for all of the A2A add-ons which have native 3-D bezel support for the GNS 530 (C172, C182, Cherokee and Comanche).

The adjustment for my monitor size was just because I wanted the pop-up 2-D GNS panel to appear at roughly life size on my screen. (In other words, monitor size doesn't affect the "[Vcockpit02]" entry where the change in the panel sizing is just to make the slightly resized gauge fit inside the 3-D bezel properly.) :)

Anyway, here's the post in case anyone else finds it helpful...
I've integrated and tested the GNS 530W V2 in the A2A Simulations GA fleet (C172R, C182T, PA-24-250 and PA-28-180 - i.e. those products which have 3-D model support for the GNS 530).

In FSX and FSX-SE, A2A's "Aircraft Configurator" can be used to select the RXP option (this is for the old RXP GNS gauges) and the "panel.cfg" will then need to be edited as below. In P3Dv3/v4, this option isn't available in the configurator (the old gauges weren't supported in P3D). However, the "panel" folder for each aircraft should still contain the relevant *.cfg file (e.g. "panel_RXP_530.cfg") which can be copied and renamed to just "panel.cfg", overwriting the file that's already there.

Then edit these two sections as follows for the new gauge with its slightly different dimensions:

Code: Select all

    [Window13]
    //window_pos=0.739583,0.000000 (existing entry)
    //window_size=0.260417,0.333333 (existing entry)
    window_pos=0.690000,0.000000
    window_size=0.310000,0.360000
    visible=0
    ident=15531
    nomenu=1
    zorder=99

    //gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS_530_1, 0, 0,100,100 (existing entry)
    gauge00=rxpGNS2!GNS_530_1, 0, 0,100,100

Code: Select all

    [Vcockpit02]
    Background_color=0,0,0
    size_mm=512,512
    visible=1
    pixel_size=640,640
    texture=$gps

    //gauge00=rxpGNS!GNS_530_1, 1,191,456,320 (existing entry)
    gauge00=rxpGNS2!GNS_530_1, 8,192,442,314
Note that the "window_size" entry was used to mimic the real unit's dimension (159mm x 117mm) on my 24" (1600 x 1200) monitor.

I've done some testing with A2A's custom KAP 140 autopilot simulation, and it seems to follow lateral and vertical guidance in GPS mode without any problems. Nav idents on the audio panel are working too.

Here's how it looks in the A2A Cherokee! :smile:

Cheers,

Nick

P.S. I don't have the GNS 430, but similar principals will apply.

I'm sure I'll mess this up, but I'll give it a try, lol. I just purchased the 530v2, but I have a task running, so I have to wait to test it out. I'll let you know, thx!

Ok I made the changes. We'll see how it looks. If the pop-up is too big, how do I alter the window size to keep is square but smaller? The F1 GTN had a nice size to it on pop-up. IOW, do I increase or decrease the value(s)?

Your values were spot on. No adjustments necessary. Works great! Just have to remember to back it up when switching GPS units (F1 GTN)

Okay, that's good to hear Chris, thanks for the post. By the way, I noticed the topic you opened on the RXP forum about lateral tracking with the Comanche. My tests with the S-TEC 30 were pretty brief (I just set up a simple GPS track towards a VOR) but it seemed to work okay. However, I'll experiment a bit more as time permits.

It's not normal. And the Flight One GTN doesn't do this at all. It's stays on the centerline track perfectly. This wavers around a little. It's annoying and no reason it should be doing it.

In fact, if you look closely at the pic above, you'll notice a slight bank on the turn coordinator and attitude indicator.

Yeah, it appears that integrating the new RXP GNS into our A2A fleet isn't as easy as I'd first thought. :| Though I haven't been able to check out the issue you describe properly yet Chris, I noticed that vertical guidance to the autopilot in the Cessna isn't working either, as described here.

Hopefully it wasn't a bad idea to go with the RXP option, but it's still early days...
