Manifold Pressure Problem

Post by DatDudeMIC »

I just took a 400 mile trip in my Comanche (N6229P). I went from KTEX to KJAC. Being that Telluride is at a high density altitude, I leaned on the ground and before takeoff. During my climb to a cruise of 14,000, I noticed my MP was dropping. First 22, then 20, then stablized at about 17.5. I pulled carb heat to try to bring it back up, but that did not work. So needless to say at full throttle, I was cruising at 17 - 17.5 MP @ 2,000 RPM. The whole flight was like this. When it dropped below 17, I pulled carb heat and it only brought it back up to 17 - 17.5. As I started my decent into KJAC, my MP returned back to normal.

I guess my whole question is, is this normal because I was flying from a high density altitude airport, or was it something I did or forgot to do?

That MP sounds about right. ;) Air pressure at 14000 ft is about 17.6 inHg in standard conditions.
