Why does the autopilot turn so slow when tracking VOR's NDB's, etc...

Nominally, one flies to wthin 10-15 degrees of the intercept using HDG mode and the Bug, before the VOR is engaged. Sounds like you aren't flying it right. If you expect the faux response of default sim autopilots, that isn't representative of most of the real devices.

And the system isn't capable of tracking NDB's, reinforcing the notion that you probably need to spend some time on hand-flying or using the HDG bug in `anticipation` mode, by leading direction changes. 30 degree intercepts are simply not possible on a a/p of this class and vintage.

As per one manuals of the system:
LO-TRK Mode is primarily for VOR cross-country navigation. The low gain minimizes autopilot response to needle deviations. This will prevent over-correction in areas where low elevation or extreme distances from a VOR cause the needle to become noisy or have a scalloping effect.

The HI-TRK Mode is designed for Localizer approaches, GPS/LORAN tracking, and a more aggressive NAV tracking such as VOR approaches.
