RAF paint scheme for the Comanche

Post by geopetlas »

When I did an RAF camo paint for the Cessna 182 a few folks suggested that I do the same for the Comanche.

Well, here it is.

Still a work in progress so any suggestions, as usual, would be greatly appreciated.

That looks even better, in my opinion. It suits the low wing design even better than the 182. If you're looking for any suggestions, I would like to offer the following:

1) I would make the fuselage roundel and squadron codes bigger. I'd say you have the relationship in size between the codes and roundel about right, but both need enlarging about 20%.
2) This one is a bit OCD, but here goes. Your RAF serial number (BL942) represents a plane from 1942. This makes the top wing roundel look wrong, as it would be the red/blue type for that year. If you don't want to change the roundel, perhaps make serial number something like ML942. Unless, of course, the letters BL have some meaning to you, in which case forget point 2. :D

But in every other way, it's looking great. The art work on the nose is a wonderful touch. I have a space reserved for this paint in my hangar!!

Cheers,
Mike

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies.

Mike:
1) I would make the fuselage roundel and squadron codes bigger.
Originally I did have these larger, but thought that they looked too big. Should have went with my first instinct.
Also, thanks for the info regarding the serial number, will change that.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!

Here are some pics of the interior.

Mind you that these are works in progress.

Suggestions are always welcome.

Is it my imagination or do the two pics below look distorted?

That looks really good, George. I like the green panel centre. :D I think the green.grey combination looks very smart, and the green is not far off the interior green used in RAF machines. There was no standard later on in the war. Spitfires were painted interior green only in the cockpit and the rest of the fuselage was bare metal. The seat was a kind of brick red as it was made of Rexine, which was an early plastic a bit like bakelite. Hurricanes were a mix of green and bare metal, and Typhoons and Tempests were a mix of flat black and interior green.

Yes, some of those pictures do look a bit distorted, but I think it's a function of the zoom and camera definitions in FSX.

After a second look at the grey portion of the interior, I thought that it looked a bit too dark, so I decided to lighten it a bit.

Also, last night I finished the repaint of the exterior view of the cabin. (Mini cabin?)
