Trim is Reversed

Post by wblackret »

Spent a couple hours trying to work through this, no luck. Here is what I am experiencing. We all know that if the trim wheel is cycled upward (toward the nose down inscription) the nose moves down. Of course, when cycled the opposite direction, the nose moves up. Pretty simple. However, what puzzles me is that for some reason it's now doing the opposite. I have a CH PRO USB YOKE. I use the rocker switch on the left hand side of the yoke to trim up and down. Whether I program the rocker switch via the control options in FSXSE or the A2A Input Configurator makes no difference, the trim still works in reverse. Going to the outside spot view confirms that the trim tab on the elevator is moving up, when it should be moving down and down when it should be moving up.

Here is my set up: FSXSE, FSUIPC (Free version), Windows 10, CH PRO Pedals and Yoke. ORBX Global base, Herons Nest (SODE). Nothing special or exotic. Just started doing this. The most recent update has been applied. Everything else works fine. Any ideas of what has happened or how to correct this?

Are you saying that the trim tab is moving in the wrong direction in the external view, or that the function of the trim is reversed?
When you trim nose down, does the trim wheel in the cabin move in reverse and the aircraft pitch up? Is the problem only limited to the external view?

The trim operation is reversed in the cockpit view, up is down and down is up. Verified by going to the outside spot view to see. I was flying, trimming as normal, when I noticed this opposite reaction.

I'm not quite understanding.

Is the trim tab as seen from either inside the cockpit or the external view moving in reverse? The reason I ask this is because the trim tab does move in the opposite direction from the elevator.

Is the airplane response pitching and and down in reverse or is the pitch behaving correctly?

Is the trim wheel spinning in reverse?

When trimming the nose down (internal view) it is actually trimming the nose up. Does that help? I've always used the yoke rocker for trim. Pushing on the forward end of the rocker always gave me trim nose down, and the opposite on the rear part of the rocker. The external view is simply verifying this. Does that clarify it?

So basically, the trim inputs on your yoke have reversed themselves wblackret? Is this just in the A2A Skylane or is it across all aircraft in the sim?

Cheers,
Nick

As far as I can determine, just A2A 182, 172. I have a PPL and have flown both aircraft. Though I didn't explain that I am aware the trim tab moves visually up to trim nose down and the opposite to move nose down. I was flying and started getting the odd inputs, tried to figure it out, but here we are. Never happened before.

Meant opposite to move nose up, sorry. Confusing and a bit frustrating. Anything to do recent update?

So when the trim wheel in the cockpit is moved forward, by hand ( forget button assignments for now), you say the nose pitches up?

That's an odd one for sure! :? Have you checked the maintenance hangar for any faults? The only other thing I'd suggest is taking FSUIPC out of the equation by temporarily moving the FSUIPC4.dll to a different folder for testing.

Thanks,
Nick

I can certainly try that Nick, I’ll try anything to get this sorted out. I’m out shopping with the Mrs., so it may be a few hours before I can do anything. I’ll report back though. Strangest thing I’ve ever seen. Two days before all was well.

First of all, thank you Nick,Oracle and Bobsk8 for your replies. I did isolate the FSUIPC ddl, but that didn't seem to do the trick. So here's what I did guys: deleted all three simconnect and reinstalled them, deleted the last update from the A2A C172, C182 and the J3 Cub (even though I forgot to check the trim on the Cub, but suspect it would have been reversed as well), then reapplied the lastest update again. Well, that seemed to do the trick. Trim is now working the way it should in all three aircraft.

It puzzles me though why it happened in the first place. I had applied the latest update about a day after it was released and up until last night I hadn't experienced any problems. Maybe the sim connects got corrupted some how, it's happened before (can't remember the last time I had to do what I stated above). Usually, at least as I recall, I had more than one issue with the A2A aircraft, never the trim though.

Ok, thanks again guys, all appears to be well now.
