heading oscillating on ILS approach

Post by approxdec »

gday all ...

what has been the result of previous similar investigations in regard to this issue?

I am using the Mindstar GNS 530.

localizer and glideslope are acquired and the C182 begins descent.
from around 1000 feet a heading oscillation begins making further approach impossible.

heading bug has been set to ILS and everything seems good until this lower altitude.

has there been a solution for this?

thanks

joe

Hey Joe - it's been noted that the autopilot can struggle a bit if the host sim frame rate is really low (say <10 fps). What sort of frame rate are you seeing with the 182?

Thanks,
Nick

yes - my frame rate is very low - 10 12 - so I guess I will just have to put up with it.

can we swap the kap 140 for the default king Bendix AP?

thanks

I don't think so Joe. I reckon your best bet would be to see if there are any graphics options you could turn down to try and improve the FPS a bit. Could you back off autogen or something a bit?

i removed autogen but the result was much the same for the ILS

then recalled the sage advice to do a reinstall when an issue is not making
sense I did a complete remove and reinstall + latest updates.

now I can fly the C182 down to 200 feet and since KAP 140 advises
disengage the AP at the middle marker everything seems good.

the autogen [medium] does not make a lot of difference to frame rate
on the laptop I use but I will watch that and special effects more closely.

thanks for setting me on the true path Nick.

everything is right with the world when one can fly as expected.

thanks
Joe

gday Nick and everyone ....

hope everyone is well and looking forward to Christmas cheer.

despite the many things written about the KAP autopilot i would like to report
my experience.

after my experiences of a year ago flying the 182 would good ... and then it wasn't ...
and then it was. i did not fly the aircraft for quite a while since it was not a pleasant
aircraft to fly on ILS approaches and life got it in the way for a while.

i questioned my technique but my flying of other aircraft taught me that was not the
issue. i made the KAP manual and made the ILS approach with HDG a explained but
half way down glidepath the aircraft would begin to wander [search] left and right
making a clean approach impossible. i recalled the ideas of framerate and slow computer.

but a few times during my approaches i had transitioned from NAV[GPS] to ROL to fly manually
switched to VLOC for intercept and then APP for the approach.

the aircraft will fly the glidepath down to the ground with no wandering search. the aircraft
will do this using this sequence every approach.

regards,
