C182 ADF and Saitek Radio Panel

Apologies if this has been asked before (cannot find anything on this forum) but can someone advise whether it is possible to get the Saitek Radio Panel to handle dialling the ADF frequency? I have searched the web and found nothing not even on the SPAD.next forum so I'm guessing it may not be possible but would appreciate some clarification from somebody knowledgeable on this particular subject. I do have the A2A C182 Lvar list and I can get the hundreds and single numbers to work but not the tens or numbers after the decimal. I have the real manuals for the Avionics and I understand the actual workings of the various avionics stack instruments.
Thank you
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I don't use the Saitek hardware myself, but is this post by A2A's Michael Krawczyk any help?

Cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick
Many thanks for your input. I am pleased to say the suggestion by Michael worked. What I don't quite understand is why the Bendix King ADF Receiver KR 87 does not show a decimal even though it does show up on the Saitek Radio panel correctly and the ADF indicator in the aircraft shows the signal being picked up. An example is my home virtual airport of Southend (EGMC) which has an ADF frequency of 362.5 I have read the Bendix King Manual for the KR 87 but there is nothing in it to give me a clue. Would you know the reason or anybody else reading this reply?

Once again, many thanks for your help.

Regards
Trevor

I think it's because you don't need to tune the .5 real world. When the C172 was new it wasn't even possible to do this, but A2A were kind enough to change it as many European NDB has a.5 frequency. I use SPAD to run my Saitek radio panel, but since the real world radio has more buttons, the Saitek one will miss out on some functions. With SPAD I cannot use the standby ADF frequency, but it's not a deal breaker for me. LINDA may be able to help, but one would still need e few buttons

Glad the linked post was useful Trevor. :) Yes - the question about the lack of the decimal frequency on the KR 87 crops op from time to time, particularly from UK simmers where there are quite a few NDB's which use 0.5 kHz spacing. In reality I understand that the bandwidth of the receiver is wide enough so that it can still tune and ident the NDB when 0.5 kHz off frequency. So for Southend we'd just tune to 362 kHz or maybe 363 kHz.

FSX doesn't work like this unfortunately and we must use the precise frequency. I'm guessing that with your hardware panel this isn't too much of a problem as this decimal will be tuned, just not shown on the virtual cockpit display. However, for those of us without, it's sometimes necessary to use the shift 6 'quick radios' 2-D panel.

FSUIPC has an "easy-tune" feature which addresses this issue, but I think this also causes problems with A2A's custom ADF standby frequency.

Cheers,
Nick

Thanks Tom & Nick for your further input which all makes sense. I am happy with at least being able use the ADF function on the Saitek Radio Panel.
