In the cruise - 8.5 gph!

Post by stevekirks »

Flying from KCMA to KAUS in the new 182:

13,000ft
18.3 MAP
2200 rpm
8.5gph
ground speed is 139kts
IAS is 104

Simply amazing....

Steve, this is what it's ALL ABOUT and is exactly how I feel when in the real airplane at high altitudes. Keep in mind, 8.5 gph is VERY lean. This comes care of the fuel injection.

I just went up to 13,000 in standard conditions and matched your numbers, and I show 102 kias and 124 ktas (all planes are slightly different in Accu-Sim too).

In my dev tools, Accu-Sim shows 109hp and 15.2mpg.

However, try this:
Set the prop to 2,000 RPM (remember, lower is always more efficient), and push the mixture in to obtain the same 8.5 gph.

This gives you 9 more free horsepower and your engine will last longer.

I now show 106 kias and 129.5 ktas, and 16 mpg :)

Scott.

Update:

I read Scott's reply and made some changes. I had to drop to 11,000 feet for more favorable winds:

11,000ft crossing FABAN for HUP on V198 eastbound
19.7 MAP
2000 rpm
8.9gph
ground speed is 121kts
IAS is 113kts
OAT 4C

Climbing back to 13,000 feet now to play with this. With those huge fuel tanks it feels like you could fly coast to coast without stopping. :)

Update #2:

Now at 13,000 feet...

13,000ft leaving FABAN for HUP on V198 eastbound
18.2 MAP
2000 rpm
8.5gph
ground speed is 162kts
IAS is 106kts
OAT 0C

The wind likes it up here so I'll stay for a bit. These fuel numbers are simply amazing. Does anyone with real world C182 flights get numbers like these?

At that altitude and if running very lean, I think it's probably achievable in the real deal.

Update #3:

Still at 8.5 gph and a ground speed of 171kts. Wind up here at 13,000 feet is 257@41kts so I'm getting a heck of a push. Destination is still Austin Bergstrom which is currently reporting winds 360@18, gust 25 with a ceiling of 1100 feet. Might be time to pull out the charts for the alternate. Max crosswind is 15kts and this baby is brand new, so I don't want to ding it.
