Quick video of C182 ... I seem to have forgotten how to fly

Post by robains »

Try to ignore the airspace violations, takeoff, landing ... ok, I admit, just jumped in and went and it shows

This aircraft definitely feels different than the C172 ... love it!

Cheers, Rob.

Great video Rob and not as bad as my own flying so no worries there! :)

Did anyone else notice the slight zoom change on acceleration, like being pushed back into your seat? Never noticed it on other A2A planes, is that new modeling for the high performance?

A new airplane is always a little "tricky" while learning it's curve :D Such as the nose heaviness of the 182 showing here on very short final while looking away to the keyboard to capture the screenshot lol.

No animals were harmed in the production of this shot and the resulting landing was actually spot on as there was a little float with only one pilot on board :D Runway is at 68 ft AGL I believe

Rob,

Thanks for the video. BTW, I noticed your engine was running rough before takeoff. Be sure to lean during taxi and don't let your idle go below 800 RPM when using massive plugs.

Yeah, just jumped in ... I didn't dial in the EGT.

I did another flight out of PAVD to PAEN and it was stunning and my flying was much improved ... this is a very different aircraft from the C172 ... and I mean different in a good way. It was -6C out at PAVD but the weather was fantastic ... and unexpected for this time of year and that location. I did change to a thinner engine oil.

One oddity I encountered (and this maybe just how the 182 is) ... the engine/prop sounds are almost inaudible (no headphone active) at certain RPMs. I've never flown a 182 real world only a 172 so no prop angle to adjust -- is this normal? Oh I did change plug types to the thinner wire thinking colder weather needs a hotter spark.

Can't get enough of this aircraft ... back to flying it ... so much cheaper than renting one :)

Cheers, Rob.

Another great Video Rob. Can I ask if your using FTX Global with all the FTx lights stuff too? Sometimes I seem to get breaks in the road lights if you know what I mean? Yours appear very bright and seem to be drawn along way into the distance.

Hi John,

I have FTX Global, but the region is set to North America with Vector Road Lights enabled (via FTX Central).

These settings in your Prepar3d.cfg will control the lights draw distance -- I currently use:

AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=9500.000000
AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=2500.000000

the maximum you can use:

AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=12000.000000
AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=10500.000000

But be warned, increasing this may have a FPS hit and could be a source of stutters.

Cheers, Rob.

Ah! That'll be it then, your on P3D! Forgot, Sorry I should have mentioned I have FSX, I do find that the FTX road lights are a lot brighter when I'm not in a specific region ie, in France they are very bright! But in Orbx England not so

Wind noise does drown out the engine especially at higher cruise speeds.

Hi Scott,

Unfortunately I was losing sound while on taxi. I have a video so will upload and show you, don't think this expected behavior.

First let me say I like your videos and your post on P3D helped me a lot, thank you!
