Preflight inspection in FSX costs 500 MB VAS

Post by KevinKaessmann »

Recently, I bought ORBX LOWI that even with low settings uses a lot of VAS.
So a circuit flight in the Cherokee lead to out of memory after touch and go.
Now I checked VAS usage with FSUIPC and found out, that the preflight inspection menues lead to a consumption of 400-500 MB VAS that isn't released after closing the preflight inspection menue.
Is this behaviour just in my environment ? Or is there any fix ?
I installed the latest update from april.

Hello,

are you using default scenery as remember the pre flight walk around is just changing views so its not the pre-flight but the view change that will be having an affect for you. But that is really high even for that, given no one else has ever reported such issues, have you tried getting back to default and trying to check stuff from there and then add things in to find the root cause or what I believe will be a combination of things pushing your system too hard.

thanks,
Lewis

Sorry, it was my fault, I was too fast.

Again, I loaded the Cherokee and waited 20 minutes without opening any menu:
VAS went down to 1200 MB.
Then I opened preflight inspection: VAS reduced by 100-200 MB, not 500 MB as I thought before.

It seems, the ongoing landscape rendering of LOWI with static and moving people, trains and so on ate up this huge amount of VAS (for a 32bit sim).

After reducing ORBX LOWI whistles and bells and LOD from 5.5 back to 4.5 (FS Global Ulimate recommends 6.5 vs. 4.5 FSX default) , I gained 500 MB VAS.

It seems, A2A with all these (incredible) functions needs a little more memory than other (small) planes and ORBX LOWI with default setting needs much more.

But with my new settings, it's flyable
