Cherokee 180 in P3Dv4 fps drop and sim lockup

Post by RinoStoof »

Hi All
I'm new to this forum and after much searching for a similar problem, so here goes a new topic..

I bought and installed the cherokee 180 and absolutely love it!
I run a 4k monitor and get on average around 30 fps with most my planes in v4.
For some reason the cherokee gives me around 20.
I installed it into v3, just to compare, and I get normal fps there..
External views give normal frames.
Any ideas?

Also, about 5 or 6 times now the sim has locked up using this plane. That has not happened before..

I love the plane and will be buying more for sure!

Thanks!
Rino

Hello,

when the sim crashed did you look at the system log to find out if it was the aircraft or the sim that was crashing?

thanks,

I have also the impression that the Cherokee uses more resources in P3D v4 compared to v3.
My settings in both sims are the same and with the default airplanes I see no stuttering. Also the Cherokee in v3 works very well.
But in v4 I notice some stuttering, especially when I look in the VC to the front though the propellor. When I look in other directions the stuttering disappears.
I don't have this problem with the default propellor airplanes when I look through the propellor.

So in v4 there must be some kind of performance issue with the Cherokee. Pity because I love to fly this airplane!

The only issue will be the extras added in v4, so remember v4 will be more resource hungry that v3 as a platform itself.

snoopy_belgium please post in a new thread any issues you are having so we can better help you, as your posts in several unrelated topics make it hard to help you.

Hi Lewis.

Thanks for replying!
I searched around how to find this error log but could not find it.
Sorry to be ignorant but can you please point me in the right direction?

Cheers
Rino

PS from memory it happened while changing outside views.. Could it be chase plane??

Ahh yes, if using other addons liek chase plane you will want to report to them also. They are quick to reply and support there customers, and put out updates as needed as the product is like an early access.

For the windows event viewer to check in case it lists whats crashing please see the basic for dummies guide here, I use the for dummies stuff alot to jog memory and find them mega easy to follow. Any further questions for viewing the log just let us know. Oh and you;ll want to view the log right after a crash so it'll be right at or near the top;

It may be helpful to add that apparently 'random' low FPS/stuttering in P3D is sometimes be caused by Accu-Sim engine smoke effects. Therefore if the FPS drops are specific to the Cherokee, it's probably worth checking the maintenance hangar (shift 7) for engine issues.

Thanks,
Nick

Chase plane got an update tonight.
I just flew for about an hour and no crash! I feel a bit dorky blaming the cherokee now..

I'm still getting low frames though.
I loaded just about every plane in the sim and the cherokee is by far the heaviest on fps.
I even turned the damage off so there would be no smoke and other fearsome effects, no difference.

It's fine in v3 so maybe there might be a bit of tweaking to be done by a2a?

Another question, how do I get the gps to show in there?

Thanks all, happy flying!

Hello,

what system are you running and are you running any non P3Dv4 addons in P3Dv4 for example scenery. The Cherokee hasn't changed enough to cause an fps hit, but the core platform certainly has, as P3Dv4 bring in even more dx11 features that as default are now on the Cherokee, dynamic lights etc.

Hi Lewis
I have an i5 7600 overclocked to 4.4gh with a big (to my mind) air cooling setup on top.
A Radeon RX480 card with 8 Gb of ram running on 4k (3840x2160)
16 Gb of fast memory
512 GB ssd drive on which my sim lives.
windows 8.1
direct x 11
P3D v4 (as well as v3), Orbx North island NZ, orbx trees, REX soft clouds.
All my graphics settings are on full bar autogen vegetation as I find with orbx trees I just get too much
Air, road and boat traffic on full .
Shadows limited.
FXAA on
Anisotropics 2x
2x msaa
Medium textures size.
I find, as mentioned, I get around 30fps on average with most planes. After the cherokee the connie is the heaviest at around 24-25.
It's still flyable as it is quite smooth as long as I don't manouvre too violently but it would be nice to have it better :-)

I have not had any more crashes by the way :-)

Cheers
Rino

Okie dokie, well you may want to pull back some of those settings even with a 980Ti in one system and a 1070 in another I'm not running as high as you are trying to run. Also are you running an custom scenery as its now a known issue that non compiled P3DV4 add ons will cause issues such as frame hits and crashes etc.

thanks,

As Lewis says, those are unrealistic settings for the hardware.
