Radio failed

Post by Maxcat506 »

I just installed the Cherokee 180 and everything works well except when ATC is opened I get "ATC disabled, Radio failed". This occurs with either the native GPS or the Flight 1 GTN 750. The GTN750 is also a new install and I ran the newest Accu-sim update. The GTN750 and ATC work well with the C172. Any advice? Thanks.

I found that ATC works with the GTN 750 on Com2 but not on Com1.

Hello,

are you using any third party flight software that might fail the radio, have you check the old default failure system in FS to check nothings amiss in there?

thanks,

Thanks for the fast reply Lewis.
I am using Prepar3dv3.
The C172 and C182 both work fine with the GTN750, and the Cherokee 180 ATC works fine with the GTN750 on comm2.
I have noted previous posts commenting on the same finding.
Can't see how this can hold me back.
The Cherokee 180 is my favorite, what a wonderful plane. Thanks.

Using the gtn 750 also with 172 182. Works fine with them just not the Cherokee. Using P3Dv3.2

There is a setting in the GTN Config to have the Nav Com work with either 1 or 2, you probably have it set to 2. Open the config and look for Gtn Unit 1 or 2 tab. Settings are in those tabs.

What also seem to help is to toggle the ' no gps' option in the Shift 3 Controls popup.

I know this is an older post, but I just came in trying to find out what's going on with the Cherokee radios using F1's GTN radios myself (in particular the Com 1 not functioning with the 750 unit). It looks like GlassAir pretty much was on the right track with his post above. When I went to toggle the GPS using the F3 menu I saw that the standard #1 radio was turned off. That was weird because when I toggled over, the Garmin unit was powered on. It turned out that all I had to do was turn the standard radio set on and toggle back to have my Comms working correctly. Keep in mind that you can't toggle the Comms around with the touch screen- You have to use the push buttons on the Cherokee panel. But I think this solved my problem for now :) Although I might think A2A should have a look at there configuration setup for this because it seems to be as simple an issue as to activate radio #1 when the GPS powers up. I gotta think this is a problem on A2A's side rather than Flight1's because if you try and mess with the config from F1's interface, it warns you not to.

I too just purchased the 180 and can’t get the radio to work too. I also have F1,s GTN 650/750 and still can’t get the radio to work for P3Dv4.3. I’ve used it before in FSX and it works fine in the other A2A models. I also tried to turn off the GTN using Shift 3, but still receive the message the radio failed. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Ron

Hello Ron,

Have you tried loading the Cherokee, switching to the default "No GPS" radios using the Shift 3 panel, making sure both are switched on, and then swapping back to the Flight1 GPS units?

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks Nick. That was it. I forgot I had to do the same with the FSX version. I think the default com radio needs to be loaded first so the radio can be turned on then if memory serves, everything works.
