Hi, I've always wanted the Cherokee to have the towing option like the Comanche and the 182. I thought tonight that I'd sit down and try to make my own gauge, that seemed like a pretty daunting task but I was determined, and then an idea struck me. I have FSUIPC installed (paid version but I don't think that makes any difference) so I used the List local variables function for the Cherokee and then went to the FSUIPC log and found the towing lvar L:Tow, assigned it to a button on my joystick and bingo my Cherokee has the same towing function as the 182 and Comanche. This may have been discussed before, if so I missed it but I thought it was worth mentioning. If anyone needs help setting this up I'll try to walk you through what I did.

solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big bro
Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
That would be great! At the moment i'm using the slew function to tow it from a customized view, but the yoke sensetivity must be set perfectly in order to be able to tow it with precision.
I would like to have some more information about how to set it up, would you like to share?

Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
Sure, Basically you need to create a text file in the P3D or FSX modules folder with a specific name in order for the LVARS to show up in FSUIPC. Below is a copy of mine
File "A2A_Cherokee.MCRO"
[MACROS]
1=L:Eng1_StarterSwitch=TOGGLE
2=L:NavInstrLightSwitch=CYCLIC
2.1=1
2.2=0
2.3=2
3=L:YokeLeftVis=TOGGLE
4=L:AdfOnOffKnob=TOGGLE
5=L:ApTurnKnob=DEC
6=L:ApTurnKnob=INC
7=L:ApTurnKnob=SET
8=L:Tow=TOGGLE
As you can see I have several functions setup and the way they are applied is setup differently depending on what I need them to do, Toggle, Cyclic, ect...
The name of the text file can be anything but you need to make sure that it has the extension .MCRO instead of .txt.
Once you get this created start the sim and open FSUIPC, go to the buttons and keys section and do the following.
1. check the profile specific box
2. choose the button that you want to assign to the task
3. on the right side check the box for select for FS control
4. in the dropdown box you should see the commands that you put in the text file listed near the top
5. select the one you want and then hit ok
If you have the paid version of FSUIPC all of the above is in the advanced user pdf under "macros to change Lvars" on page 42
If you have anymore questions feel free to let me know

Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
Good thinking Mark! I'd always assumed that enabling 'towing' for the older Accu-Sim GA planes would involve more than just toggling a single L:Var. Definitely something I'll have to enable globally via a keystroke for my A2A GA fleet in that case.
Thanks,
Nick

Thanks Mark, that's an excellent find. I've just added the macro and bound it to a keyboard shortcut. Now I can tow both my Cessnas

Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
I think it will but not sure. If you use the list local Lvars command from FSUIPC and the tow LVAR is in the list I would think it would but I might be wrong.
Thanks Mark
Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
I'll try it out tomorrow, i got my simulator set up for the Cherokee at the moment. It thought if i swap to a default aircraft, i could try to see if it works.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what's wrong with Shift+P?

Ron I've never really liked the shift+P or the way it works. Using the Lvar I can switch to spot view and look at the plane from the front, then use my yoke and put the plane where I want it.
Thanks Mark

Re: solution for the Cherokee not having towing like its big
Is this possible in the free version of FSUIPC? I can't seem to find where to do it in the free version.
Thanks

'Fraid you'll need the registered version of FSUIPC to play with macros and L:vars Caleb.
