VFR Flights within the UK?

Post by Davwills01 »

Hiya!

Yesterday I installed the A2A Cherokee 180 and what a beauty she is! Today I've mostly just done circuits and maneuvers, so here is my question to you, are there any good VFR Flights to do within the UK using the Cherokee? Anything between 30 mins and 2 and a half hours?

Thank you in advance,
Dafydd Rees

Oh for sure, Beccles to Humberside is a regular for me, and Beccles to Duxford too.

thanks,

I fly almost exclusively in the UK, and almost exclusively VFR in the Cherokee.

Some favourite flights include:

Gloucester to Bembridge Isle of Wight (via Solent CTA)

Biggin Hill to Lydd or Shoreham or Southampton, but always with a transit of the Gatwick CTA north to south through the overhead for the challenge and to see the big tin fly!

Gloucester (or anywhere mainland) to Jersey via the St Katherine's Point IOW-Cherbourg standard VFR route (see the AIP for Jersey for the routing)

Gloucester to Leeds or Manchester. Both are regularly staffed and can be busy. Easy run up the M5!

Gloucester to Wycombe Air Park. Short but enjoyable eastbound route.

Wycombe Air Park to Biggin Hill, skirting around and between Heathrow Class A and the Gatwick CTA

Shobdon is a nice destination in the Welsh hills

Bristol is also regularly manned and makes a good southwest base, easy runs to Cardiff, Exeter, Guernsey, north to Birmingham, Gloucester etc

So yes, I am based at Gloucester hence the bias! But I also try to staff up Gloucester tower as often as possible. If you're a member of CIX VFR club I tend to post in the 'Im controlling' thread. They also arrange group flights and challenges for VFR fliers :)

Hope that helps!
