VFR Winter Flight in the Pacific Fijords

Post by _ME2_ »

Currently, I am revisiting the beautiful Pacific Fijords and I thought, I'd share some impressions of a short flight from CAE4 to CAJ4.

The Cherokee likes the cold air. The engine startet without any issue, it only needed some more primer and a more throttle to get it going (outside temperature was -16°C).

Weather was kind that day.

6 knots crosswind at CAJ4. Floated a little long but apart from that it was a smooth landing.

Very cool shots. And nice job to get her started in those temperatures. I tried the a couple of days ago in Aspen where it was -17C and I had a really hard time. I went through a couple of battery charges and one or two starters. Installed a engine heater after that

The Comanche was way easier to get going.

Hi,

Great shots! Thanks for sharing, the surroundings look very cool.
I am doing a US trip in my Cherokee 180 - just finished leg KBOI KBYI. It is cold there too, I managed to drain one battery out until the engine came alive. It was -9C (16F), now at the town of Burley, Idaho it is much warmer 3C (37F).
What a great plane to fly.

Happy holidays,
Will
