Can't get GPS to work

Post by Magnus »

Hello,

I have problems to get the GPS to work in the A2A Cessna 172. No matter which one I move on the panel through the Aircraft configurator, I do see the devices on the panel but they are 'dead'. Black screen, no content. Battery is on.

Where is the problem? In front of the computer? If so, what do I need to do?

Stefan

Hello Stefan and welcome,

Just to clarify a bit, the RealityXP and Flight1 options are provided for customers who have purchased these third party add-ons separately.

Garmin GTN
http://www.reality-xp.com/index.html#pricing
http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=gtncomplete

Garmin GNS
http://www.reality-xp.com/index2.html#pricing
http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=gnscomplete

If you have purchased any third party GPS add-ons, please let us know exactly which one(s). If you haven't, then this is necessary to power up and use these units. Without any third-party GPS add-ons installed, you still have the choice of the default panel-mounted GNS 400 or the window mounted GPSMAP 295 option. You can swap between these two (or a 'no GPS' at all option) using the Shift 3 menu.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi,

thanks for the quick replay. So far I did not buy any commercial 3rd party GPS. What I took from other threads is that the standard GPS (I am in P3DV4 btw.) is supposed to come up on the 172 Panel just in another look. So the two links above do not apply for the moment as I am still reluctant to buy such a package. What I haven't clearly got by now ... is there any chance bring the standard GPS (or another which might be around in the installation) onto he C172 panel?

You say: "you still have the choice of the default panel-mounted GNS 400 or the window mounted GPSMAP 295 option. You can swap between these two (or a 'no GPS' at all option) using the Shift 3 menu."

That's not the case here with me. Shift-3 does not bring up a GPS as it does in the default FSX 172 (which is running in P3D as well).

Rgds,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Just to clarify a bit, Shift 3 doesn't show a pop-up GPS itself, but rather brings up the 2-D 'controls' panel which allows you to activate it in the cockpit. If you have set the 'default' option in the Aircraft Configurator, the Shift 3 window will show some text, roughly at centre, which you click to toggle between the different default GPS options.

When active, these GPS units should be visible in the virtual cockpit (if they don't, make sure the sim isn't paused) and the screens can be clicked on to bring up a magnified pop-up version.

Hope this helps.

Nick

Hello,

Have you selected one of the GPS options using the Shift 3 menu as described above? With the default options, you should be able to switch between "NO GPS", "GNS 400" and "GPSMAP 295".

Thanks,
Nick
